Don't forget about Upskilling!

While you are looking for a job don't forget that you have an opportunity to use this time to pick up highly valuable training certifications. "Up-skilled" workers qualify for higher wages and growth opportunities. Specialized training certifications – like welding – or exposure to industries through internships or apprenticeships can help get workers "up-skilled."

For anyone living in Upstate SC check out these programs: Apprenticeship Carolina, a division of the South Carolina Technical College System, provides employers with consultation services to set up paid apprenticeship programs for high school and college students as well as adults. Many Greenville-area companies like Michelin, ReWa and Charter Communications offer apprenticeships.

LaunchGVL is a partnership between the chamber and Greenville County School District. It places high school juniors and seniors in paid internships with local companies. Students can find internships in communications, manufacturing, business and more.

Workforce Pathway Grants are state-funded scholarships for workers to take continuing education courses. Greenville Technical College offers courses in manufacturing, environmental safety, healthcare and quality management.
