Can i get fired if someone that is covering my shift didn't show up?

My coworker who was supposed to cover my shift but didn't show up. I had no idea until 2 days later when i show up for work and my manager threatened to fire me but he said he has to talk to the other managers. I had no idea of this. They never called me or informed me on the day of. It was a legal shift change. As in the manager approved it so what should I expect?? I don't want to end up unemployed.

I agree with Alyssa, If it was approved manager then other supervisor is at fault! Not you !! As for your manager threatening to fire you without all the fact isn't a very good manager needs to attend basic supervisor school. Always hear both sides of a story before moving into discipline! I guess you could thank them for showing you what not to do!:-)

If the manager approved the shift changed, technically, he should have called someone else in to cover and not fire you. IF s/he attempts to fire you, please see your union rep and PLEASE bring your documentation of the approval regarding the shift coverage. If you don't have that information in hand. It will definitely be a case of he said, she said. I always advise my staff (as their manager), please document (date, time, place (go as far as what you and were wearing if need be) get as much detail as needed. I always say, if you take the time to document that much information, then there has to be some truth somewhere in it.

Your manager approved the shift switch between you an the other employee, so therefore if that person doesn't show your not accountable for their no show nor does the manager has the legal rights to firer you. The manager is at fault an required to work that shift or find another welling employee to cover the shift due to approving the shift switch. Plus if any employee can not work or suddenly has an emergency before work he or she should notify the manager before 2-4 hours before shift start. When that's done the manager has to find a replacement employee or either the assistant manager goes in an cover the shift. If the assistant manager not available then it's mandatory for the manager to work the shift.

Not a very good employer if he did but if you did not show up to work and did not call in then yes. When I worked for the airlines and we traded shifts it was always best to call in telling them that so and so was covering your shift.

I work in a Union facility, as long as there's a paper trail that shows management approved the swap, you'd be fine here
