General Motors shutdown in Ohio

For those who work for General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio we are so sorry to hear that the plant is closing its doors after so many years.

Here are some tips and resources that will assist you in the upcoming weeks!

-Get coverage Having health coverage is so important. Speak to your former employer about extending your health insurance benefit for up to 18 months under COBRA (the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). You have 60 days after your coverage lapses to opt-in or start shopping for your own policy on healthcare.gov. Your new employment status allows you to enroll even if it's not open enrollment time.

-File for unemployment benefits Often times many of us think that only laid-off employees are eligible for these benefits. However, in most states, fired employees can collect too, as long as they weren't fired for intentional misconduct. It can take a while for benefits to kick in, so file right away.

Check out these companies who are hiring • The Home Depot - hiring for in-store Customer Service, Sales, Merchandising and Warehouse/Distribution Picking, Packing, and Stocking. Thank you for the info! I did not work for GM but as the main sub-contractor for them. We finished up our assemblies Tuesday and sent them over. Our company took i insurance payment out of our last check to cover us until may 1st. Ohio means jobs met with us about a month ago and made their resources available to us. They also said you do not have to be unemployed to use their resources either which is nice. They are having a few job fairs as well that we were informed about as well.
