Management

After being on a job 7 years and being ran off due to poor management how do you explain that in a interview with speaking down on the company? I have been to so many interviews but seem to get choked up when asked why I left. I have tried numerous of different sayings but clearly nothing is working. It's almost a year since I quit and I had no idea it would be this hard getting back in.

Hi Reana Francois - that's a great question. On one hand, you don't want to lie to the employer about what happened to make you leave the job. On the other hand, you NEVER want to badmouth a previous employer - no matter how bad they treated you. It will make the interviewing company worried about what happens when you leave them.

As for the fact that you've been out of work for a year - that's a decent gap in employment. It could be a red flag for some employers. Read this conversation for some tips on minimizing it on your resume. This conversation provides tips on explaining gaps in an interview.
