Well Debbie, to answer your question about what does it takes to be a caregiver in my opinion. For one you have to want to help and actually love helping others more than you like the pay. A good caregiver has people skills similar to customer service skills some other medical training like CPR certifications ,Hoyer lyft training and other training or qualifications the more the better job and pay. But I believe the number one thing is you have to just have a heart, compassion, empathy, and understanding when it comes to caring and helping others like you would if they were your family in need of care so all of us possess those qualities maybe some have to dig a little deeper to find them than others but anybody can be a caregiver if they care enough. My opinion.

If anyone needs to talk to someone I would be willing to help

First you have to want to help. I believe in treating others the way you would want to be treated if you were in this situation because one day you will be. Empathy, compassion, and understanding. Cleaning, cooking, doing laundry we all posse these qualities. But doing it with compassion and kindness and making life easier for everyone

Medical Caregiver at Sopo Leasiolagi

Debbie all of the above responses are good. Ask yourself if you want to care for adults or children? Do you prefer location in a private home or nursing home ? Do you prefer a position of home caregiver or medical caregiver ? Do you have certifications for home care or nursing assistant {which may be required) ? Do you speak a foreign language ? Do you have a clean criminal history and a drivers license or way to work ? You need patience, compassion and desire to help others young or old, rich or poor regardless of religion or political position. You must be flexible and able to manage stress and keep a cool head when moments are stressful. Caregiving or medical training would help. Good Luck , Debbie

Good evening Debbie, The first skill to have is a mindset for caring for someone as you would your own family member. Next, you will need a heart for compassion an ear to listen, empathy for clients family as they are going through a time with this as well. Finally, assisting in organizing a care plan with the family to better care for and to keep your client safe from in the home.
