Social Worker

I wish we still have more options like the good old days, I could just apply at the company and get an interview on the spot.

I only apply to jobs that I know how to do, that way I am able to highlight my skills and experience

Only applied for jobs I had experience.

It is a great topic to discuss. I wonder if anybody landed a job for a different reason than I have.

  1. Research the company. This would help you in more ways than one. First, you'll know what the company specializes in and if that's something you would like to do. 2. You can see the reviews from former and current employees. 3. When they ask if it have any questions doing the interview process, you'll be able to ask specific questions regarding the company and/or position you are interested in. This will help you tremendously.

  2. Redo your resume by adding keywords from the job description to your resume.,(ex. If they are looking for someone who is familiar with excel, power point etc) be sure to put those skills on your resume. Being in management for 13+ years and working closely with HR I learned that most systems that are used to find the ideal candidate, are built to match keywords to the candidates resume.

  3. Once you apply, take the initiative to all or visit the potential future employer to show that you are interested in the position. Ask to speak to the hiring manager. There's tons of applicants that might be applying for the same position. Try to stand our.

  4. Last but not least, send a thank you email to those that participated in the interview process. This is another way you could stand out from others. So asked for a business card of the people interviewing you or at least get their names so you can get their email addresses somehow.

Trust me, these will if not get you the job, it'll put you in the final conversation. Of course you have to interview well πŸ˜†

HI Rochelly,

The best strategy that has helped me secure a position in the past is knowing someone at the company who put in a great reference for me! They were able to vouch for my work ethics, character, and positive attitude :)

Be confident in your interview. It’s your time to shine. I’ve never not gotten a job I applied for.

You should do about 70% of the talking. Companies like people that don't bring drama to the job. Let them know you have good self esteem , you like helping others whether they help you or not. You want to be part of a successful team and have fun when you can. A smile can be a good icebreaker and every guest should be treated like a respected family member. You say what you will do, then do what you said you would. Integrity is something that must be front of mind every day. When do I start?, well maybe not the last sentence, you'll have to read them a bit.
