How likely is a person to get a job that requires a Bachelor's Degree if they don't have one?

I have heard of this happening but have no idea how to make it happen for myself. #interview #noexperience

Hello Derrek. The short answer is that it depends. If the employer is posting a job that has a degree requirement, you would have to show that your life /work experience and training would equate to a degree. A good example would be military service, most employers look at prolonged military service in a related field as a degree equivalent.

Without military or civil service backgrounds, it is harder to quantify but not impossible. If the job you are applying for is something you are passionate about and know a great deal about; tailor your resume/application to reflect that passion and experience. Example: I noticed you like to work with troubled youth. This says you have leadership skills, positive work ethic (setting a good example) a sense of community (loyalty). So when applying for a job, think about how those qualities would apply for the position you are interested in and how you can use those qualities for the betterment of the company.

Last and certainly not least: take the time to research the company you want to apply to. Make sure their values align with your values. Make sure you have a general understanding of what it is they do. Remember, more often than not, it's your resume that gets you to talk to the hiring manager, so your resume has to reflect who you are and what you have to offer. IF you have to submit a resume, rather than an application, ALWAYS write a cover letter. In that cover letter outline who you are, who you think they are and how you will fit into the company and what value you will bring. Final though on the resume. Remember K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid). Don't go over the top with big words, crazy font or graphics. Keep it simple.

Good luck to you. I am proof you don't need a degree (I do have an extensive military background), but nothing is impossible. You just have to get your resume or application to get you to the hiring manager.
