Waiting and loosing opportunities

I just recently acquired a job (so i thought) with a timeshare company named "" Bluegreen. I had worked for them in the past and was very happy to be a part of their program again. However after i filled out the application for employment and was told i had the job i had to wait for a pee test email to come so i could get tested pass then start. That email never came. I called everyday for a little less than a week and was told "it should be there tomorrow." this was said every time i called. Then the last time i called i was told the new hires and the rehires were on hold for a couple of days. Again this was after a little less than a week of being told i had the job and waiting on the pee test email. Make sense so far? I finally get a text from the gentelman that hired me saying the program i was hired for was shut down. So no job. what i find upsetting is i stopped looking and appling for jobs during the time i was made to belive i had this position. what im trying to understand is there something wrong with the misrepresentation of having the job? Also, loosing all that time trying to find a job is a huge set back. Can anything be done as in a complaint, a rebuttal or something. does anyone have an answer?

Paul, If you read the news you'll notice alot of stores are closing locations and a lot of companies are cutting back and laying off. The position for which you were being considered is probably on hold and not being filled at this time. You might write the company and tell them you enjoyed working for them in the past and were really looking forward to working for them again. Also, if your prior employment history with them was a good one, you might mention that to them - that you already have a proven track record with them.

Paul the short and true answer is no... There is nothing that you can do about it. Now from this point on remember that phrase that I use all the time. NEVER STOP applying and interviewing until you get the call that states "YOU ARE TO REPORT TO WORK ON MONDAY"!! I always continue to apply for work 2 or 3 weeks after I accept a position. Reason?? So if I get caught up with budget or hrs available it don't matter. I'll take the back up job. Job seekers must began to think and be just as crafty as companies now. HR is thinking money, benefits saved... I'm thinking if not this medical office then this urgent care or hospital.... But I don't ever fire my last shot till I am satisfied...

No. When a employer says, you have the job, it still means the same. The department for the company probably did not have the budget or their budget were cut.

Paul, That's horrible! You experience, although not uncommon, borderlines the At Will Employment laws that allow employers to separate employment relationships with employees with little to no notice or reason. A common exception where you may be able to file a complaint is if you feel the circumstances you did't get hired are discriminatory. You're frustration over time lost job searching as a result of what you believed to be a job offer is legitimate but I suggest you put it behind and get back to looking for the right opportunity. Here's a link to the at will laws you can review in case you wish to pursue a complaint. https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/84397da5-6bd7-5f2e-8648-22ce4bce1001
