Executive Assistant

Military member having a hard time finding a job

I need advice, please! I have been looking for a full time position as an Executive or Administrative Assistant with absolutely no luck! I am bilingual 100%, have over 23 years of experience working in the US and Europe and worked as an EA up until 2017. I am a member of the Air National Guard and was offered a full time position in my career field as an MP. I am coming up to my 2 year mark and desperately want to go back working as an Admin but am unable to. I have applied for countless jobs and barely get any responses back. Sometimes I believe it’s because I am a protected veteran but then I opt out of responding and nothing. Is the market really that bad or is it because I am in the military? I am starting to lose hope. Any thoughts or advice?

Thank you all!

Hi Jessica Jara - I know Anthony Harrington is a former military member. He might be able to provide some advice on how to transfer skills from a military career into a professional private one!

I don't think that you are getting explicitly ignored because you are a veteran. It's all too possible that the area that you are in is oversaturated for the need for administrative assistants.

Hang in there - the job search is rough, but you will make it. You definitely have the tenacity and strength to get where you need to go - just keep chasing opportunities and you will get it.

Keep me updated. The community is here for you!
