The only way you move up in Walmart is if you kiss the managers butt and if I have to do that it won't happen

Overnight Stocker at Walmart

Eugene I have to totally agree with you. This is my 3rd time working for Walmart. The first time I worked there 20 years ago I made store manager within 2 years. Unfortunately I had to quit after another 2 years because I got cancer and couldn't work for awhile. The 2nd time wasn't so great but that was because I lived in a racist area and the bosses there were really racist. I found out later most of them got fired for that very reason. Now I work for the Neighborhood Marketplace and love it. Walmart even has a benefit that allows you to go back to school for $1 a day, $16 a paycheck that I am taking advantage of. If you work well for the company the company will work well for you.

Sales Associate at Walmart

I’m glad you had/have a nice experience but I disagree with you. My experience with Walmart has not been pleasant at all. From day one they lied to me. When a co-worker became physical they refused to handle the situation. Several customers, employees, and myself voiced several concerns/complaints. The store manager “fixed” the problem by PROMOTING the abusive worker and all employees that reported him got their hours cut! Since his promotion he has continued his violent behavior. My punishment (per the store manager) for going to corporate about this is:

  1. I cannot get a transfer out of my area
  2. I cannot get a transfer out of the store
  3. I will never get a promotion
  4. I loose my full time status as 8 hours a week is more than enough to live off of

Maintenance Associate at Walmart

I digress. I worked at Wal-Mart for a number of years. And unless you want to go into management, or other higher degree field ..... them it's a pretty dead-end place to work for. Don't get me wrong - They're good to work for. Just that some of us don't want those type of jobs.

Add Your Resume Title Here

I worked for Walmart in two different stores. One in NorCal, and other in So Cal. I am from So Cal so when my mom got sick I transfer from the one in NorCal. My manager at the NorCal store said it would be a mistake because most stores are run differently. I didn't listen. I transferred and it was cool for the first 6 months, then I started noticing and hearing things. Normally I don't care about gossip or people talking crap about each other. But for some reason, I was worrying and thinking what the heck is going on. If the manager at the So Cal store doesn't like you for some reason, it is because of the smile on your face every day or the color of your skin. It really didn't matter really. Well, I was there for a year in a half when I was working in electronics covering for a friend who was from Morrocco. He has a family, and he was legal and trying to get papers for his brother. He was a hard working and more America then me when it came to surfing, food, movies. His brother stayed in Morrocco to finish the sell on his parents business. His parents came to America when my friend was 3 years old. They have a business here as well and became citizens millennia ago. That day I work for Mohammad, Walmart tried to say he was there working and money was missing from the register. But it was a lied, he wasn't working that day, but I was. So I said, he wasn't there and even if he was he is not a thief and neither am I. At that time I wasn't on the register, there were other people working and there are not enough registers for the number of workers that were there that day. Check this out, when the manager Gail Bell is her name found out that I was backing him up, she had someone approach me and tell me there plan and I said no I am not going to lie for you. The reason they wanted me to lie or the reason they wanted him out was that he was named Mohammad and he was born in Morrocco. So a week later they set me up to be fired too. They still fired him. As a matter of fact, they set him up too. I like working at Walmart too, but I will never ever belittle myself for them or any company you can't appreciate what it is to truly means to be an American. Yes, excellent opportunities. If I had stayed at the NorCal store, I would be a store manager by now. Because I went back to school and now I am 1 class shy of getting a masters in forensic psychology. Just be vigilant, do a great job. No matter what it is. Work in other departments, even the ones you don't like. Help when needed without complaining. Peace
