#AGEISM part2

Well here we are again ,back on the employment search. Once again my age has screwed me. What make matters worse. is the position for which I've over 15 years experience was filled with a young individual who hasn't any prior work experience. Now don't take it the wrong way, I did let that person know. That he has been given a great opportunity, and wished him nothing but a prosperous future. I just wish we had a way to prove actual ageism when we get shot down for a position.

Take note it doesn’t matter if anyone has tattoos. Having tattoos doesn’t mean you are a bad worker, it just means you have tattoos. That stigma has to go as well.

AGE ISSUES: It will come up - 100% of us are more than qualified for something. On that level, our age is a huge plus, because we bring experience to the table. If these companies would offer a job with no benefits to us"older folks," - at our age, we are benefited to death - medicare minimum - they would be gaining an employee that has an awesome work ethic, that simply wants a good days pay for a well done job. BUT; What they see is a person that has their life written on their faces, via our wrinkles, in our eyes, the gray in our hair. We aren't looking for a new 30 year career, we don't want the position they hold - we just want a job. I think they see "older folks" as a threat. They want someone young, dumb, and will take their "threats" seriously. - (if you don't work 30 extra hours today, you're fired) - Anyone that's ever been in management know these "unwritten rules" when it comes to hiring. I'm 71, and yes, I do have wrinkles, but I'm clean and don't do drugs, no tattoos, and I'm a damn hard worker. All I hear is "over qualified, or not enough experience." I simply want to work, not sit home and die. I find myself wondering the sixty four thousand dollar question; HAVE THESE PEOPLE TELLING US NO ---- LOOKED IN THE MIRROR LATELY ??? They will be us tomorrow...being a "older folk" is awesome, cause GOD knows, we've earned that right. But that right has also given "management" the unfair right to tell us no, all based on our age.

I understand completely! I have over 30 years in food manufacturing with 12 of those years in Management. I had only 'Exceeds Exceptation" on my annual reviews. I worked for a large LLC company that ran under one dictatorship (owner). I loved my job and performed it exceptionally well. Long story short, the companys top management team decided to restructure the organization. I, along with about 40 others lost our jobs due to no fault of our own. A severance was given and now I am on unemployment. I have applied for every single management position in and around my area. It has been 6 months now. I am 54 years old. Now my previous employer has my job posted along with other jobs that I more than qualify for but there is no response to my job interests and resume submissions. This situation is so unfair and I feel it is my age - what else could it be? I feel like someone has attached a 'DO NOT HIRE' notification on my profile to all employers. Super frustrating!!!

I love to see when justice is served righteously. GOOD For YOU. This made my day hearing this News. People do not care nor have respect for one another these days.

I'm 71. I applied for a job as a dishwasher at a well known chain restaurant. The manager hinted strongly that because of my age, I might be tempted to "take home left over food." He assumed my only income was S.S. AKA; need a means of getting food. I didn't need the money - what I needed was interaction with fellow humans. I have a great income that supplies all my needs, most of my wants - but he was a smart ass bout it. So I told him the only reason I wanted the job was to stuff one of their cast iron frying pans in my panties and walk out the door with it, cause I wanted it so bad. At that point, he threatened to call the police for potential shoplifter. When I left, I went straight to my attorney, and filed an age discrimination lawsuit. The restaurant settled out of court, and the manager lost his job. I don't think he was qualified to be a manager, not with an attitude like that. Was I wrong? What are your thoughts bout being treated as "too old?"

Good luck with that, I am 73 and in great shape with a ton of management experience, but as soon as they see my age and background they believe I am too old or have way too much higher management level experience. I just love to people and staying active
