Starting the job hunt

First just want to say thankyou for all the suggestions from everyone. I have been listing myself on several of the online employment agencies ,looking at the number of jobs they all claim to have it would seem theirs enough jobs for every american in this country to have atleast 2 jobs lol. Iit seems that i have a lot of work ahead of me to find a good match for employment of the position i want and being on disability , but words of hope to all , Never Give Up , and like my grandfather use to say employers arent going to come knocking on your door and say hey Mark your the guy we been looking for we have this great job with big big money for you please come to work please. Lol. Nope he said. You got to do the foot work and the phone calls and now the computer searches. When I was a young man when you could actually fill out and application and immediately talk to the person doing the hiring in person and sell yourself face to face it sure was easy for me, I got the job I wanted not bragging I was just good. Lol. Anyway I think I might have missed a interview online with manpower that was refered to me by someone on here because i didnt check my mail on time , I had so many I had to rest staying up all night working on computer , I forgot im not 18 anymore lol. But im gonna see if that window is still available with manpower. Thanks for reading. Have a good night

Mark - Welcome to the community. Unlesss you're a Cyber Security professional with 18 years experience, Top Secret clearance with a Full Scope Poly, odds are jobs aren't knocking on your door. The way jobs are found in this 4th Industrial Revolution are different yes, but somethings never change. Even with the advent of technology, 80% of jobs are never advertised. Networking is the key to a successful job search. Start with understanding yourself and the value you bring. Then get out there and strike up conversations. Don't be afraid to mention you're looking, but if you can find a way to help someone, they're more inclined to help you. There are lots of good advise on this site. Again, welcome and hit me up if I can help. - KD

Hi mark hitchcock , Welcome to Jobcase! Your grandfather's right... you have to put your name in the hat in order to get picked/hired. A lot has changed since the "walk-in application" days. Technology has allowed job seekers access to more job openings but it's also made the application process less personal at the same time.

A strong optimized resume along with a solid digital presence are essential in to enjoy a successful job search experience today. I encourage you to visit your local career resource center and meet with a professional career counselor if your thinking about exploring an alternative career path this time around. The counselors are equipped with assessment tools that will help you identify career options you can transition into with little to no additional job training. These centers also sponsor hiring events with local employers so they're always abreast of who's hiring in your community.

The members in the community are Awesome resources too! Members like David Moreau , Patrick Coppedge , and K.D. Holderman are well versed in job search tool building and interview preparation. These folks make excellent resources you can network with to share questions, concerns, and industry news that may come up along your journey.

Best of Luck with your job search mark hitchcock and always remember that this community is here to support you. Stay Well!
