Phone interview

Ok fellow jobcasers i have a question. Today I had a phone interview and I want to know if it is appropriate to send a thank you email or is that being to pushy and should be sent only after a person to person interview? Please some of you who have HR experience tell me what is correct,or should I just leave it alone.

I don't have HR experience but I was on a search committee where we conducted phone interviews prior to inviting select candidates to an in person interview. I can't lie and tell you that we were not swayed to bring in some of the candidates due to thoughtful composed thank you emails.

There’s nothing wrong with sending a quick “ I appreciate your time ...”. I would make it simple and sweet.

Pam Robinson good for you, thats great. Did it feel like a phone screening or job interview? During a phone screen HR representatives will ask verification questions like. Do you understand the role? Can you work the hours? Are you okay with the pay? Then end the call scheduling you with a face to face interview with the department manager or hiring manager. A phone number has more open ended behavioral questions like, Tell me about a time you resolved a customer complaint, Whats your definition of teamwork and give me a specific example of how you executed that definition in a previous work environment. So, which one did it feel like? Hope you get hired.

Hi Pam Robinson - I'm not in HR but I have interviewed pretty extensively - it depends on how well you think the phone interview went! It doesn't hurt to send a brief follow up email a day or two after and thank them for their time and consideration. If you include a quick blurb about your conversation and build upon something you discussed, it can also help.

It's not pushy, and helps put your name back into their minds for consideration on the role. Let us know how it goes!
