My age! Soon as they see im older I get the look. And im usually considered young looking for my age. It's horrible. Companies do not want people over 55 it's a liability thing. They think old they are going to get hurt or be sicker etc. #ageism

I have had my own photography contract business. This Covid-19 has wiped out most of my business. Also, I graduated from high school in 1963. Here is the deal; your chronological age is the least accurate "age" indicator. But tell that to the hiring people! I do think you could work from home for a lot of firms now. You would be a good hire for them. No health insurance needed in most of our cases.

One of the reasons I have had my own business is because I have found that once my age is shown in a document, the interest wanes. I was doing well until the virus shutdown. Now I have to seek work elsewhere while also trying to keep my business afloat. No, it is not easy. Shawn said to create your own company after 40; she is right on...if you can. Or even 50. OR even 75! But this virus situation has put most businesses on hold.

Wanting to know what year you graduated high school is a blatant attempt to find out your age. I'm surprised that's still a legal question to ask on an application.

If you feel you were being discriminated due to age. Speak up. That is against the law.

I say all people 40+ create their own companies. Under 40 need not apply. ?

Lately I’ve noticed they use your graduation date (college, high school) and just add 2 + 2...

I too agree. I just turned 66 and have applied to various companies. They usually do not ask for your birthday, but they usually check one way or another your age. I still have a lot to offer.

I was ‘furloughed’ due to COVID March 27. Sure age and my salary was a part of it and have not had any luck even getting a first interview. Age is the problem. I have the experience!!

Nah.. been experiencing that since about 45. It is ridiculous. They think, he will want 100k, or something. So, don't hire him that way he makes zero. Sometimes you just need to get paid. Well, we 45+ have been where you are!!! We have been the boss, and we can help!!! We may move on to the 100k job, but we just might help you succeed, and we don't bail without notice!!! We can set you up!!! Meanwhile, we just might end up homeless, along with those depending on us, unless we die from stress 1st!! Truth!!!!
