Restaurant will have you train with someone. But you need to be friendly. Get to know your guest. Treat guest like you want to be treated. Give your guest respect. Learn the menu. Ask your cooks about the specials what is in the dish. Always make sure your guest glass does not go empty.
The best quality you can have is personality, confidence and a big smile. You will be trained on location and Yes, you will make mistakes, Mistakes help you learn faster because you now own the right answer. You don't need any prior training to be a server. Most places will train the servers in their own ways. No serving job or position is ever the same unless with the same company. Some serving jobs can be more demanding and hectic than others but if you enjoy taking care of other people and making sure their dining experience is no less than you would settle for yourself, you will be a natural and gain a whole new family of customers who will love you. Go with the flow and you will make it.

Depends on where you get the job:; most places do on-the-job training. If you work for a place that serves alcohol, you will need to follow the state alcohol certificate training, which usually doesn’t take very long to get.

Learn to carry a tray n smile. All restaurants need help. Or, Start as a hostess and learn. Fake it until you make it!
You will need an up to date food handlers permit, but usually the job offers a free course to certify you if they plan on hiring you.
If you have never served before, apply at Senior Care facilities that have a three meal per day restaurant. They are ALWAYS hiring because it is only hourly wage, no tips. Work there for six months or a year while you study wine-liquor-beer 101 and service etiquette. After six months or a year, apply at private country clubs as a server. They are also ALWAYS hiring, plus you will start making tips on your check. Do that for six months or year, read "Wine Folly" and/or "Wine for Dummies" and keep studying. After that, get a letter of recommendation from both previous employers, use an online resume writing service, and then you can work anywhere. My wife and I both work fining dining in a major city. I made $125K in 2021 to work 30-35 hours a week, and she made more than that. Not kidding.
My first job was a waitress at 16. You need to be able to legally work in your country, and have identification. You don’t need previous experience, education, or any additional credentials to be a server. If you want to be a bartender, or anything else that’s a different story. If you’re under 18 and don’t have a liquor license, you can’t run alcohol. It honestly depends on the company hiring what the requirements are. Good luck!
