This is probably the second time I've posted here but I've tried just about everything I can think of. I've applied to fast food industries, ice cream shops, dish washing positions, putting myself online for babysitting, and even room attendants for hotels and still no one has made a effort to contact me, email or anything. I recently turned 17 and have been filling out applications since the beginning of May, it is now July and school is next month. I'm starting to think if it is even worth the time to keep applying since school is going to start back up and no one wants to have to deal with a young workers school schedule. By the time I realized I should be calling to check in on the status of my application it had already been a whole month afterward and I figured they had already given the position to someone else. Are there any suggestions now that I'm at my wits end?

That is what it is like when you are job-hunting. You have to be patient, and KEEP beating the pavement. Try Mc Donalds and Bright view senior care. They are always hiring.

Hi, It can be difficult to navigate job applications and hiring at first, but once you get the hand of it you'll find that there are a couple of rules that hold true for almost any job.

  1. Following up. Do this early and often! There are often a lot of candidates for one job, so it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. Stand out by letting the hiring manager know that you exist and that you're excited about the opportunity. You should do this within a week of applying for a job.

  2. Positivity. When you interact with a hiring manager, try to be as polite and positive as possible. Try to refrain from speaking negatively about yourself or others, especially former employers.

  3. Persistence. This applies both to following up and job seeking in general. You have to be applying almost non-stop these days to start getting noticed by employers. Keep applying for jobs as you're following up and interviewing for other jobs. It may sound like a lot of work, which it is! Job searching is pretty much a full time job in itself.

Even if you don't end up getting a job for the rest of this summer, take these tips with you for your next round of job seeking. I hope they help!
