Caregiver at Sage Oaks Assisted Living

The biggest mistake I made as a #CNA at #Sageoaksassistedliving ...

My mistake was expecting and trusting management to properly handle the abuse of medications and residents. After the first event I should have reported it to DAD's rather going through the chain of management hoping it would stop while putting the other residents at risk of becoming the staff members victims. Would you know it she quit and did a no call no show when I made it known I was taking it higher! And standing my ground! Still nothing was ever done and there were no protocols to prevent it from happening again. I was told to never speak of it again; except the pattern was continued by another co-worker who was a sister of management. The ending result; they did nothing! So I quit! Called the police and DAD's. My mistake was not calling sooner!

As a previous CNA for years this story makes my heart hurt, but I too got to see a behind the scenes aspect of just how heartless people could be. I took my job very seriously and treated my patients like family. It gives you a different perspective on the system in which some Organizations conduct business. I've caught med errors, seen Nursing staff abuse drugs, patients ignored etc. It's terrible! I'm not saying all Facilities are that way, but they exist. I've realized not everyone is capable or deserving of becoming a Caregiver, Nurse or Healthcare Provider they're there for a check.
