“Company not Interested in You”
Yesterday I had one job I applied for tell me the position has been filled already, I was never called for an interview but that’s not what this post is about. Now, I really wanted that job but I do have three other jobs that I have applied to and am waiting for an answer. That was yesterday. I never thought it would get as bad as what I saw today.
I applied at a Barnes and Noble in my area (the only Barnes and Noble in my area) as a part time bookseller. The application sat there for about two weeks, allegedly not being reviewed. When I checked today on the application status it said : “Company not interested in you”. It was like a slap on the face. Apparently there are other candidates better suited for the position. 16 year olds with no experience can get hired at Barnes and Nobles as booksellers! This is supposedly an entry level job. It’s one thing when someone more qualified is chosen for the job, it’s another to hear the reason you didn’t recieve a call was because the company had zero interest in you.
I worked temporarily at H&R Block and I wonder if that had anything to do with me being rejected. But that is the only work experience I have. Now I’m worried about being rejected for the other two jobs I’ve applied to. I feel so discouraged.

Don't get discouraged. This is happening quite a bit. Try not to take it personally, but I DEFINITELY understand your concerns.

You have too much fear and no faith. Also you have to check in on your applications the day after and the next day. And be consistent. Jobs hire based of consistency. And eagerness to work !

It’s really tough! I recently landed a position after being unemployed for 6 months! I’m older too and that really messes with your big time. Before I.interviewed for my new position, I went to Macy’s and bought a new lipstick called “In the drivers seat” by Smashbox. I wore the lipstick to the interview and got the job! Stay positive and speak what you want to manifest. Hang in there!

Something similar happened to me. Had one interview with this company in May of this year nothing happened but all of the jobs engines kept telling me they were a good match. Had a interview with same company a month ago was told to wait for certain email from HR. Never got the email and when I called them they told me they ere going in a different direction

Keep trying. Happens all the time. A lot of employers are color sensitive, even though they say their not. I only aplly for jobs I qualify for and still no luck. Your good enough 2 clean their toilet, but not good enough 2 meet n greet.. but most ...They want people with college degrees to work entry-level positions so they can pay them less and fill that vacancy. But college students..most don't stay with jobs long. Good luck

Keep trying hun, there are thousands of companies out there that you can apply for, have you done any extra curricular activities in school? Or maybe some charity work or even side work for family or friends? If so, you can put it on your resume as experience. That will make your resume a little more appealing two companies that are in the market for young woman like yourself. But whatever you do do not give up, and do not be discouraged because your job is out there.

Kayla, I totally understand where you are coming from. I got a rejection email today from a company called Jack Henry and Associates. I have more than enough experience and yet they went with another applicant. They are also still advertising for customer service reps. That is what I was turned down for! I am furious. I answered the email thanking them for letting me know and then I stated that I was more than qualified for the job and did not understand why I had not been hired. I finished my email with "unless it is because of my age." I am 64 years old and I flat out accused them of age discrimination. My daughter who has several years of retail experience also applied at Barnes and Noble only to never hear from them. If they weren't the only bookstore in our area I would never shop there.

Hi Kayla Bermudez - I totally get what you're feeling. Sometimes when you're on the job search, you get rejection after rejection, and it starts to really mess with you.
Take a step back, and breathe. You mentioned you worked at H&M Block. How was that job search experience? I recommend you read through this conversation, and all the resources within it. I genuinely think it will help you approach the job search in a way that is more strategic and will result in a better end result.
Best of luck, Kayla. You can do this! The community is in your corner.
Lowe's did this to me too. I applied for three different positions--offered an interview which was then cancelled by them, the other two I was rejected from... Saturday they have a walk-in interview thing. I feel deeply discouraged by their lack of respect for their applicants, but I'm forcing myself to go so I can at least say I tried once more. However, I have a small business thing in the making and I want to succeed in that so I never have to deal with the miseries of job seeking again.
