How would you ask for workplace accommodation?
This week we want to hear about how you have discussed accommodation while on the job. Have you worked directly with your employer to ask for #accommodation before? If so, how did you do it? We want to hear from you in the comments๐๐ผ
- Donโt ask
- Speak to your supervisor
- Go to HR for help
- Bring in medical documentation
- All of the above or something else
What have you done in the past? Tell us in the comments!
DID YOU KNOW: We have a job board exclusively for members of the Abled Workers Unite group? See job opportunities here!
Members of Abled Workers Unite had a lot to say last week about where they are on their current #jobsearch. As you would expect, everyone is on a different part of their job hunt process โ just know we are here to help on the Abled Workers Unite group at Jobcase ๐ #TogetherWeCan

One thing people should know; HR does NOT work for the employee, they only have the company's best interest in mind. I have learned to document anything and everything you feel you're having a problem with. Don't trust anyone you work with, even if you think your friends. Dealing with any type of accommodations should have some type of medical documentation to support your claim or needs.

I Always let them know during hiring but as soon as my MS causes my work to be slow Iโm fired!

Sadly bringing up my disability has gotten me terminated.

Go through HR. They understand the law. Managers are not lawyers.

In my current job i asked for ADA accommodation. The job was for a chat advisor but on the first day of training it was told to us that we would have to take live calls also when the phone queues were busy.
As someone with a voice disability i could not do this, I asked during the interview process if was pure digital communication. I was advised yes, After speaking with my trainers about this i was put in touch with HR. After Paperwork from my doctor office i was given ADA accommodation to do Digital chats and email support. This happened last May and i am still with the same company but now going though my own serious health condition and have been of work since early December 2022 due to having a stroke. My employer has been very fair and good to me and i got no complaints with them.

Please job need help me i. Am softwere developer html5css3 and javascript

I feel that saying the company name is ok if I have something positive to say about them. They let me take my breaks as I needed but not go over the 2x15 and half hour. This made me more productive and work even harder some companies are very willing to support all of their workers. Brooksourse was one of the best jobs I have ever had.

Am looking for hired , because I have alot of skills ,but know one is supporting me ,if any company can hired me for visa sponsor .

I asked the COO, she said stay on disability. Fast forward 16 weeks, I got terminated. Lawyers won't take my case. I worked there 25 years. Now I'm looking for a job and I'm getting ghosted.
I would have a doctors note prepared that states what accommodations you need and then ask you direct supervisor about the process for accommodations. Companies have to accommodate if required to help you perform you work duties. As long as you go about it thru the right process and procedure you should receive the accommodation
