I just wanted to share a few interview points Ive learned these past months, after losing job to Covid-19. Do your research on company youve applied to! They WILL ask why you want to work for them! Gear your answers to their questions from the what you learned and like about company! Solid reputation, community oriented, a charity company supports hits home, etc... Also, if its a video interview, be mindful of your background; if theyre mission statement mentions religious beliefs, having a symbol of such ( cross on wall) will show that you have same beliefs and will fit company culture. Look into camera, not interviewers eyes. Practice this, because it seems unnatural! But when looking at their eyes, you`ll appear to be looking down!! Have the questions you want answered at the END of interview wrote down beside you. And take notes - it lets them know you are interested in position! A good rule of thumb, dress on step above position you are applying for. But again, do your research on company culture, so you appear to "fit" in! Good luck!!!

Thank you so much for sharing Janice

Thank you so much Janice. Definitely need all the words of encouragement I can get!!!

Ö bum )

Great advise!

Thank you for that valuable information especially about the camera, thank God I have 2 interviews this week for a Recovery Specialist, Praying it goes well.

It would be blessing to find a job

Congratulations, Jennifer!! I just told my sister, "It'smore work trying to find a job, than working the job"! And one of my part-time positions is cleaning/disinfecting office buildings. As you very well know, all those months were so stressful, and even, for me, terrifying! Good luck to you!!

Thank you so much for posting this Janice. I just had an interview a week ago and I did all of the above, and got the job!!!! (Mind you, I have been searching for 8 solid months 8 hours A-day 5 day. Just like as if I were working that's the same time I spent completing applications, self assessment tests and reaching out to contacts) Now I'm just waiting on the background check but-- I'm sure everything will be fine.

You are welcome! I actually learned all this from a merchandising company I applied to (did not get hired, tho)! I spent a couple days watching their interviewing "how to" videos. I have applied to so many, I cannot even remember which one it was! But I think you can find interviewing techniques on You Tube. Highly recommend, as there are so many people applying now, and you only get one shot! I have 2 part-time jobs now, and may be hired for another. Haven't started 2nd one yet. I cannot work 3, so I'm gonna have to pick 1 or 2 that fits me best (and I fit the best)! Vimeo on disability, so J can only work & earn so much, so I do not lose my Medicare coverage! Good luck to you!
This is such great advice! Thanks for sharing, @Janice Vizza . I saw somewhere a suggestion to make looking at the camera feel more natural: draw eyes on a couple of post-it notes and put them on either side of the camera, then focus on the eyes. Thought it was hilarious, but probably effective!
