Material Handler at Visalia Rescue Mission

I worked in the back, material handler, receiving the donations but a big part of GOODWILL is showing great customer service. Upon interviewing just let them know that you will give your 100% to the tacks at hand. And don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't know something.

I definitely agree to be yourself. When it came to my experience at Goodwill back when I was 18 everyone there was super friendly and open. They had an understanding that it was more of a job for people that were either looking for their first job or for those who may have a harder time finding jobs due to certain circumstances, so I feel it's very easy to start work there. Also with my experience its a job with a moderate pace so it's perfect for those starting off. There tend to be more of a variety of customers around their late 30s and up, rather than young adults or teenagers. Purging items and putting them on racks and organizing will be the main thing on the sales floor if you're not cashier for the day or assisting customers so it's not hard at all.

Just be yourself and professional at the same time. You will be working around a variety of different people and many are special needs. So just be open to any position they offer you.

I think the best policy is to listen more than you talk. Except of course when they ask you questions and depending on the manager that interviews a few yes mam, no mam or sir won't hurt. Oh and show up at least a few minutes early.
