How did your employer respond to your resignation? What did they do well or poorly?

People talking smack about you after your departure! I actually had to answer all sorts of questions as to why I left.

Make sure you read the fine print when signing documents to take a position and don’t just go by what they say! Some companies try to slip things in due to unethical business practices.. take TelAffects for example:

Telaffects has a form you are required to sign that states.. “If an employee terminates their employment either voluntarily or involuntarily while in training (3-4 weeks), and have not entered into production (graduated training and moved into making/receiving live calls) their hourly rate will be reduced to minimum wage for their state).” However they also say that, if you realize during training that this isn’t the job for you, that’s ok, the job isn’t for everyone.

This means that if they “hire” you at say $14 per hour and you realize that the job isn’t for you OR they feel you wouldn’t be a good fit and you end your employment or they do, that instead of the $14 per hour you are expecting you will ONLY get whatever your state minimum wage is.. keep in mind Federal minimum wage is only $7.25 per hour!

This information should be covered during the hiring process and not just slipped in as a form to sign!

Just wanting EVERYONE to know of this company and their unethical business practices.

Perfect example? There was a personal issue with our new hiring manager which could not be proven. He called me in the back after I had worked there nearly 5 months. He had papers on his desk when I entered and? He told me after I closed the door behind me that he was giving me the opportunity to improve on my abilities by offering me a 90-day probation. I knew I was being set up as he had problems with me and so did the vice president of the company who used to curse me out and call me personally at my desk and tell me how stupid I was. So I laughed at the offer and told him "no thank you, I quit" I knew that they were going to have an issue if I left so they were just trying to use me until they got who they wanted into my position. So he thought I would immediately take the chance to sign the probation? I didn't. So stammering he said "you realize that I'm giving you an opportunity to keep your job? "again I said,"no thank you, that's okay..I QUIT" I SAID I GUESS THERE'S NOTHING MORE TO SAY SO I'LL GO CLEAR MY DESK" then I laughed and walked out grabbed a box cleared my desk and told my coworkers I would see them later sometime. They couldn't figure out what was going on. I told them feel free to call me because I was leaving and I peacefully left. I started job hunting as I had been hunting anyway seeing how they treated me and when I filed an EEOC complaint the VP knew the people and got covered for all of the things she did to me. I had a stellar work record anytime I went for a job I would be hired immediately as I was even applying for a job when I walked into this place but I was with a friend who was applying and they hired me! So now all of a sudden for the first time in my life I'm not being hired on every job I have listed them as one of my jobs at. Felt they said they fired me and possibly were saying negative things about me. Two friends who were there years later managed to see derogatory in my file, comments and their lie I was fired.

I didn't quit but my lay-off was painful - my supervisor's BFF needed my job - I was offered six month's severance pay but had to send the letter back four times unsigned due to typos that changed the meaning of the document.

I have quit a lot of jobs on the spot because the managers didn’t how to treat employees. I remember being disrespected by a warehouse manager in 2013 so I called OSHA on them costing them $250k in penalties. I told the managers that I called OSHA in front of them and other employees at a meeting so I would have witnesses.

I received a job offer from another company so I gave them a two weeks notice and quit two days later at lunch time. They were so mad that I felt vindicated. I felt I did really well because they deserved it and shouldn’t treat mistreat employees.

Till this day I take that type of action and I currently have a class action lawsuit on a former employer from 2021. Employees are scared to speak up for themselves, but I’m not so I feel I’m doing them justice by forcing companies to make changes on how they treat employees. I always tell managers “People don’t quit jobs, they quit managers”.

I was working for a nonprofit organization and I was told that my manager wanted me to resign from my job and specifically was told I had to submit my resignation within 72 hours. The thing that I did was state that I was submitting my resignation issued under duress. When I finally sat down with the Human Resources manager, she asked what was the reasoning behind my resignation, then I just unloaded. I stated that I was being threatened and blackmailed by my manager, accused of malfeasance, and moral perpetuate. She then asked for the specific examples of the accusations? I stated that I was accused of violating HIPAA guidelines in discussing a person’s medical history with people not cleared for that information. Specifically, some women were inquiring about why only women were allowed in a certain shelter? I stated that if they remembered the initial intake process? I informed them we pre-screened each client against the National Sex Offender Registry. They then asked why a certain woman’s boyfriend was allowed to stay at the main shelter, but not be allowed in the women’s shelter? I stated that because of HIPAA guidelines, I wasn’t able to discuss the gentleman’s medical history with them. They then reported me claiming that I had outed the man as a potential pedophile. What actually happened was that the man wasn’t allowed in the women’s shelter because he was an alcoholic and drug user and not cleared to be in a sober living situation. I admitted that I had skirted very close to outing the individual and if I was considered guilty, then I would resign. However, the Human Resources Manager realized that I was being scapegoated and after I had resigned, warned my Manager that she would also have to resign as there was sufficient evidence that my Manager coerced information from people who couldn’t be trusted!
