3 interview deal-breakers that could cost you the job

You optimized your resume, got through the screening process, and scored an #interview. Congrats! Now the real excitement (and pressure) begins.

Here are three common interview mistakes you need to avoid if you want to land your dream job!

  1. Not researching the company. You don't have to be an expert in everything the organization has done, but if you haven’t done any research, and you don’t know anything about its services, products, or culture, it’s going to become very obvious during the course of the conversation.

  2. Using your cellphone. Please, please, please keep your phone tucked away (on silent!) in your bag or the car. Texting, scrolling social media, or answering calls during the interview will most likely cost you any chance you had of being hired. This includes the time you might be waiting in the lobby or interview room before the actual conversation begins! Remember, the actual interview begins the moment you walk into the door.

  3. Being late. Interviews have a lot to do with first impressions. And being late is definitely not the best way to make a great first impression as it shows a lack of respect for the employer's time and a lack of time management and organization. Of course, things happen - you could get stuck in unpredictable traffic or caught in a subway delay. If something does happen, do whatever you can to get in touch with your interviewer.
