Are You A Good Employee?
We have all heard the saying "good help is hard to find." Exactly what does "good" mean? Is it something anyone of us can achieve in regards to the type of employee that we are?
Many times employees complain that though they work very hard, they do not get the recognition or promotions they think they deserve. Such employees do not realize that just working hard is not enough to get recognized or promoted. Several other qualities are also required for this to take place. The ability to work hard is very important, but these days employers expect many other qualities from their employees. This article is an attempt to describe which other qualities or traits employers look for in "good" employees.
Qualities or traits manifested by good employees.
COMMUNICATOR: Employers like to hire employees who can communicate well and express themselves in a clear and effective manner, whether in writing or speaking. This is becoming a big problem as the art of communication among many in the workforce are lacking.
SELF-MOTIVATED: A good employee never hesitates of taking responsibility or a more responsible position. He/she is also ready to work beyond the call of duty to meet deadlines and goals, or to solve problems.
HARD WORKER: There is no substitute to hard work. Although everyone seems to say that they work hard, not many continue on working hard after being at the job for a while. Consistency is important here.
ADAPTABLE/DECISIVE and EFFECTIVE LEARNER: Employees who know how to adjust themselves to a new work environment, are willing to learn new things (quick learners) and perform their best during changes, are likely to be the best performers in any organization.
TEAM WORKER: Many companies and work environments consist of teams which require effective team efforts. Hence, an employee who is a team worker; collaborates well with others, is an ideal worker.
HELPFUL: Everyone needs a helping hand every now and then. Do not hesitate in helping out others. This helps establish friendly relations with co-workers and keeps the office running smoothly which in turn is appreciated by the employers.
HONESTY: A good employee is honest about his/her work and qualifications. Self criticism and willingness to receive feedback (bad or good) is essential to become a good employee.
ETHICAL: Work rules are made to be followed. There is decorum in the work place that needs to be kept. A good employee follows the policies of the company and inspires others to do so too.
DELEGATE RECOGNITION: Give credit where it is due. A good employee will not only truthfully let the right co-worker have his/her credit but also share their own accolades with his/her team.
POLITE: Being friendly and approachable will never cause any harm. It makes for a pleasant work environment with nice workers.
DISCIPLINE and PUNCTUAL: Every boss likes a punctual, disciplined and conscientious employee.
AVOID GOSSIP: Loose lips sink ships. Everybody should always remember that we come to our employment placep to work, to build a career. Do not spread office gossip or rumors. Respect the privacy of co-workers. Safeguard and protect the confidential nature of the business, it's employees and clients/customers and transactions.
Whether you are an employee who has just started a career and joined a company or you are a seasoned employee, manifesting and improving the right qualities and traits can help you throughout your career. Practicing the qualities of a good employee, may help you find a stronger foothold in the company and increase your chances of getting recognition, promotions and success.

Appreciated
Been with my company for 35 years and they continue to take away commissions away and I no longer feel appreciated after 35 years of dedication.

My biggest challenge I overcame at work was...
Pushing myself harder and harder everyday to exceed expectations.

forced to quit
So started working at a motel as a housekeeper a month in shit starts getting bad and other employees and the boss started doing shady acts to me and my olman who got hired the dayafter i did..example we leave tip envelopes in case customers wamt to leave the hk that cleaned there room a thank u..well i had previous motel experience so first month i proved how good i was at my job and everyone saw how much the guest enjoyed my presence here it caused animosity and jealousy which caused my tips to be stolen by my manager the kids got screamed at just because we live on the premises we wetr no longer allowed to have r kids here during buisness hours .so if my days off r wed thur. And the kids is sat sun when can they really be here.i refused to turn the kids away so she firef my ole man. So because of that i had to double my work hours i took verble abuse which lead to humiliation and still nothing done about my stolen tips after three months my drive to get up and show up became very depressing and i felt unworthy in the bosses eyes no matter how right or hard i try to performe my duties. Lastly a family got sick from pesticide which long story short they tried to blame me verbaly abused me humilliated again the manager checks my job the boss lady checks hers and it was never done i refused to take abuse and all the blame so i quitely walked away does anyone feel like i have a chance in a lawsuit forced to quit forced to move less than 24 hrs emotionally phisicaly broken what should i do
