Be outstanding.

Think you don't need to plan for your interview? Think again. Once a company notices your resume and gives you a call, you should start strategizing. Go to the job interview fully prepared. Set yourself apart from the candidates who might have more job experience but do not spend time preparing. Only one candidate will come out of the job interview a winner, and it's not necessarily the most experienced one. If you prepare and do your homework, it will be you.

"your'e too old" is not something that stopped this gymnast!

Cool story. 27 is young to most of us, but in world of elite gymnastics its pretty old. Check out this really cool story. I think HuffPo is right, we'll see a movie version of this soon.... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/houry-gebeshian-armenian-american-olympics-gymnast_us_57bddfede4b04193420cb68d?section=&

How can we get More Help?

How can we encourage more Mentoring opportunities!! This is a story of a convicted Felon who couldn’t even find a dishwashing job after serving his sentence and being released. Despite all the rejection he chose to stay on the right path and endured an innumerable amount of financial, social, and spiritual challenges as a result. Through God’s Grace, his Courage, and solid Mentorship he was able to reach an unimaginable level in his education and now want’s to help other’s who are struggling. I honestly don’t know the first thing about about the frustration and bias Ex-felons face trying to re-enter the workforce but I do know that there's plenty of Ex-felons out there who are eager to pursue a new path in life; if they ONLY had a CHANCE. How can we get people like Dan Geiter to join online communities like this and support members struggling in specific areas? https://amp.businessinsider.com/a-convicted-felon-is-opening-a-college-2016-8

Beware of Job Scammers

I recently had the misfortune of almost getting sucked into what I believe to be a scam. The HR person had me log into Google Hangouts to chat with the HR rep at Seer Interactive. After just a few basic questions I was "hired" for $33.95/hr. (red flag #1). I asked for more money but was told I can always negotiate at the training. (Red flag #2 - You don't attend training until you have a deal. )Then the HR rep said the company would be providing me with an HP laptop but that I had to buy a long list of software (about $1000) from their preferred vendor. (Red flag #3) I told them they could take their laptop to their preferred vendor and have the software installed and provide the laptop to me at training. That was against company policy. At this point we parted ways.

I wrote this up and notified the Federal Trade Commission about the scam. This is a great link the FTC sent back to me that I'd like to share with all of you so you are not prey to the scammers.

Where’s your dream job?

So now that summer is starting to wind down I know I have some friends who recently graduated that are really starting to look for a new job. (Hard to do when you have vacations planned). I ran across this little article that I shared with them and thought I would also share here. Thought it could be helpful as we’re all out there trying to find our “dream job.” http://www.marketwatch.com/story/five-things-standing-in-the-way-of-your-dream-first-job-2016-06-07

Introverts and Success in the Workplace

I recently saw this link posted on Twitter, and thought I would pass it on! While some people may see themselves as introverts in an extrovert world, there are still ways for you to be successful at work. Do you have any other tips you would add?

The science behind age-ism may have a point - and some good advice...

I hate to say it, but at nearly 49 years old, I can relate to what they are saying in this article, completely:

Driving in beat-up car resulted in Google! Cool origin story

Sergei Brin talks about how Yahoo founder encouraged him to build his own company instead of selling his first search algorithms. Cool. Money quote: "Failure doesn't matter, nor does success," he said. "It's really the privilege to pursue your dreams that matters."
