Beware the Scams!!!!

I just wanted to bring this up so everyone else is aware of it. I think I've seen a couple people talk about this before, but it finally happened to me. I had someone reach out to me saying they were from this company saying they found my info on one of the job boards I'm on. We had the interview via video since they weren't based in my state. I even looked everything up and it all checked out. At the end of the interview they said I was hired and would be working in the forthcoming office in my city. They said for now I would work at home and that they would send me a check to get the necessary equipment. STOP RIGHT THERE!!!! I new immediately from that something was wrong. Well I had screenshots of our correspondence, which I sent to the corporate office after calling them and finding out they weren't opening an office in my city, and they of course said it wasn't from them. So my tip for all of you - keep track of all communication you have with someone who seems a little fishy. And never accept a check from someone to buy equipment just to get you started!

Scams

I have received several emails from people requesting an interview, mostly stating they are a European company moving to the US. You can spot these easily looking for the following: email address name is not the same as name in the body of the email; they do not actually state the name of the company; the domain email is not a business (abcd@eircomm or zoso); if you click on the email it is a jumble of letters and numbers; the email does not include an actual name after the salutation). Also if there is a company name, look it up or call. One company I looked up was decommissioned in the 1960's. Too good to be true = it is fraudulent. Do not give them your info.

Job interview scam

This happened to me yesterday. First I received an email from a nikopatty@comcast.net instructing me to sign up Hangouts and contact a Kristina Starks ( kristinastarks7@gmail.com) for an interview. Kristina messaged me on Sunday afternoon for the interview, I declined. She then messaged me yesterday morning at 6:00 am central standard time (this tells me she did not even do any due dilligent as to where I'm located). I responded to her to chat at 7:00am. We were on hangout and she gave me this website ( www.ihcgroup.com )to review for 10 minutes, then informed me of the job description and benefits. She then sent me 5 questions to answer and once I'm done to respond DONE. She sent another 5 questions. Told me I'll have to work from home until the new office is completed, soon. Then I am to order equipment and supplies from one of their contracted vendor, and a check will be mailed to me. The hiring manager will contact me with full details this morning at 8:00 am but that never happened. I noticed that Kristina was active on hangout for about 40 minutes before I decided to shut off my computer. Earlier this morning, I went to the IHC Group website and tried to see if the job was posted. Nope. I then sent an email via their "contact us" inquiring if there was this position that I was interviewed for. I received an email back from IHC Group that the interview was a job scam and apologized for it and also advised me to contact the authority. I was lucky that I did not go out and purchase any items. Both email addresses and time of the message caused me to question what company used employees personal email address and setting an interview for Sunday? Please be cautious with these calls.

Scam Alert

Lately there have been postings about wrapping cars and getting paid for it. Please do not respond to them and definitely report them. They are not legitimate. They will send you a check with explicit instructions to cash the check and them send about 3 quarters to another individual. DO NOT DO THIS. It can and will cost you a lot of money if you do.

10 ways to avoid Scam job opportunities

I have seen several posts on specific job scams. I thought I would put together a list based on personal experience and various job seeker reports.

  1. Never give your bank account information to a 'company' that offers a position through email or Google hangout.
  2. Do not cash checks sent to you for equipment purchases through the mail.
  3. Check the URL! If you are sent a link to whatever.gov, make sure when you click on the link the Web address in your browser is https://whatever.gov. Scammers often have redirects to a different website. Check through a search engine what the company's corporate site is, to verify. (Check for misspellings.)
  4. If you cannot speak to a person, it's a scam.
  5. Ask to speak to a current employee or customer. If they won't provide either, HANG UP!
  6. Don't believe that just because they have a website that they are legitimate. If it is not a well known company, call the phone number or send a customer inquiry message. If the number is out of service or you don't get a reply, they are fake.
  7. Any offer that starts with 'We are opening an office in (your city) is a scam. International corporations don't recruit that way.
  8. Never agree to accept packages and re-ship them.
  9. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
  10. Report scams to: Federal Trade Commission  1-877-382-4357

Good Luck!

Scam attempted almost victim.

I myself fell prayed to a scam recently it was a company by the name of Kroger and they wanted to hire me to do things here in the city I live. They mailed me cashier's checks to purchase equipment to use. They wanted me to deposit the cashier's check electronically to my ATM, fortunately my ATM rejected it. I then turned and called the banks that these cashier's checks were issued upon, they ended up being totally bogus. I was drug along for almost a week with this individual on Google Hangouts assuring me that the check has been sent and that they wanted me to be online every morning at a specific time. But when I found out the scam was on I confronted them and I have not heard a word from them since. I retained all the conversations I had with these people and I also retain the envelopes that were sent UPS and FedEx to my home and I also retain the two cashier's checks that were bogus I fortunately never exchanged any vital personal information with them checking accounts or anything so beware.

Employment Scams - BEWARE!

Hey all, Just wanted to bring this situation to light, although you may be already familiar with it: FAKE INTERVIEWS! So this company reached out to me regarding my resume, saying they got it from an employment search engine that I posted it on. They proceed to conduct an interview with me, online, because they are a German based company. (I looked them up as well as the recruiter, and it all matched up). We go through a lengthy online interview to which they say I am hired - to work in the NJ office opening up soon. I am to report online everyday at 8am and they will pay for my software and equipment needed to work from home, till the office opens. They send me my new hire packet....along with a check for the software/equipment. RED FLAG. I never countersigned the paperwork and they're sending me money?????? I call the company headquarters in Germany, and they say they are NOT opening an office in NJ at all. I send them the screen shots of my conversations, and they say its not from them. Besides identity theft, these scammers want you to deposit fraudulent checks which will never clear, while you use your own money to pay for fake equipment you will never receive. Caveat Emptor. No recruiter should be asking your personal info or even the basic info if you have it already on your resume.
