Licensed Social Worker

I am actively pursuing full time work as a Licensed Social Worker. I have been employed as a Medical Social Worker for the near past 27 years in an acute care level setting, four years as an university academic counselor with the Educational Opportunity Fund, and as a bilingual Social Worker with Cubans, Mexican Americans, and Mexicans in various government and private non-profit settings. I have worked with a variety of aged, socio-economic, medical needs, mentally ill, and substance abuse populations.

Now I find the job search SOOOOOOO different! The application is done on line to include not only my resume, but also a fill-in-the-blanks (repetitive, at times lengthy) application and multiple subjective questions. My age is given away with my birthday, years at schools and on my jobs. Computers read the information to rule out candidates if "key words" are not noted. I feel that I use much more of my time in the application/cover letter process than the time a potential employer may ever give me!

One more thing before I end my plight here - The jobs for Social Workers! I see mostly part time, per diem, or temporary Social Worker jobs posted. The full time jobs which are seen are usually at a distance out of my preferred and noted mileage range. Also, although I name my profession, I all too often am answered with jobs for nurses, physical/occupational therapists, residential counselors, and . . . (the most popular in numbers) Uber/Lyft drivers. WHAT IS UP??????

Something I learned at #SullivanHumaneShelter ...

How much care and love the employees show these animals. They change the animals personality totally. We have a high adoption rate because the animals are so well cared for.
