College Degrees vs. experience

I will be 62 in 2 weeks. I was just released from a managerial position. I have over 25 years experience as a supervisor / coach / area manager, 25 of which were with a Fortune 500 company.. Without a college degree, it looks tough.

Being Forced into Retirement!

Afternoon...I am approaching my 65th birthday in April, and the owner of the company I work for is requesting that I retire. Can he force me to retire even though I am not ready too? He states if I don't retire he will "promote" me to another position in the company...this could be cleaning the bathrooms. If I refuse to retire, can he retaliate and dig up some bad data and terminate me? I look forward to your response.

50 and passed over

The same thing has been happening to me for the last two years since graduating college. I am 52 and have a bachelors in marketing and have interviewed many times and not been hired. The employers have passed us by in favor of younger less expensive help. I am going the self employed route. If you can’t work fir yourself. Then you may have to change careers.

Frustrated by temp agencies

The company that i worked for decided to close, i was employed with the company for 29 years, been out of work since August 2018, i have signed up with every Temp Agencies that pops up and they all want to send me back to school are a job that so far away i would have to relocate, companies have chosen to take the eady way of hiring, they want you to have experience, what gappen to giving people the opportunity to apply get hired and learn a new trade or skill and we cant figure out why unemployment is so high. So i totally agree with the person because i am also 58 years in age, but the sad thing is we have to continue with our daily lives having difficulty in maintaining your bills and even having food to eat it becomes depressing at times, holding on to your faith it still leave you question God and yourself..

forced out

Trying to make long story 5 plus yrs. Short. Can't say there aren't should haves & could have & I know my weakness. Struggled since day one. Only one in my dept..I had to figure out everything , often given a hard time. There was often a turnerover of staff. Then the issues of overtime .I was constantly being told & reminded of the time issue . That was so stressful! There are 2. facility's , one I work in is smaller. Supposedly the personal in same dept. @ other facility was in charge over both depts @ both facilitys. Being medical we are subject to multiple inspections. All ways had very good evaluations & good reviews by most inspections. Got these random Thank you notes saying how I'm hard worker, how I set an example to others etc.. It was so hard to keep in touch with the latest , to get info. Needed to do my job. Healthcare is constantly evolving. I went to any & all seminars on my own time & did online education on own time. I felt I never had any support .Company recently started making changes. New staff obviously they had a higher level of certification & experience. One them was over my dept. .That person observed everything I did never said anything whether it was right or wrong. Towards the end I felt like I was bullied out. All of sudden everything was my fault. If I spoke to someone as I was spoken to I would have been called on the carpet. Towards the end I was not allowed to say anything. All of sudden I was not doing my job but it was ok by the company to allow someone with NO experience to help in my dept . at various times in the past.Towards the end I was not allowed to fix anything & I was told that I was told of these issues but nothing was in writing. I felt knee high to an ant. Never missed a day. Can't begin to explain how I felt. I didn't see there was much choice but to resign while I some dignity. Done this same job for the last 20yrs. (2 different places )But not qualified to the this job elsewhere because of the changes. I'm 62 no job or experiences. Most jobs expect one to multitask & to have previous experiences so most jobs that open I only have the capability of part of the jobs. Not secretary material ,tried that .Have no computer skills never had need in my job. Somehow I thought I could make it long enough to retirement.Looking @ big box stores / Grocery stores. Feeling depressed, like I have been kicked in the gut. Never in all my working years!. So fustrated!!

What is the best way for a very able senior citizen to find a good job in Toledo, Ohio?

We are a senior couple who lost our pension through bankruptcy of my husband's employer. Need extra income to supplement our Social Security checks. Husband functionally deaf. No money for hearing aids. I have experience in outside sales, customer service and medical terminology.

Upset

I have been looking for work for months also. No luck. The only people that seem to find work are people under 30 and they only stay a few months and move on. I can work circles around them even tho i am 61yrs old. No one wants hard working experienced workers
