Help wanted - To put my foot in the door.
I am a recent graduate with masters degree in Supply Chain Management and have 4 years of work experience. I have been applying a lot for a full time job and it seems like that even to get a call for an interview, I need some kind of reference. I have the potential and the skillset along with the required level of dedication which will make me an ideal candidate for a job. I am looking forward for any kind of help in terms of mentoring me or connecting me with the right person. Thank you

Question
Any job referral?

Is it all about references?
I am a recent graduate with over 4 years of experience. I have been applying for the last few months for a full time job but it seems like the things are not working out. I see others getting a job who are less experienced and even sometimes they do not have all the skills required for the job as reflected in their resume. They land up the job just based of references which is sometimes someone they met in an event or a close friend already working in the company. I know I have the potential and can do really great if given a chance. This brings me to the question- Is is all about the references and nothing about what I really know or what I am capable of? How should I approach further? I just need a push to put my foot in the door.

Quick question
I am filling out a job application and one of the questions in the employment history is "If employed, may we contact? Y/N' Not sure how to answer this because it feels like a double edged sword. any recommendations?

References upon request
I always put the that at the very bottom of my polished and to the point resumes and it hasn't hindered me..my prospective employers like my resume and my bold template

The Power of "Personal Recommendations"
Personal Recommendations go a long way. We trust the judgement of others. It's part of the fabric of strong cultures. But we don't trust the judgement of just anyone. We are more likely to trust those who share our values and beliefs. When we believe someone has our best interest in mind because it is in their benefit to do so, the whole group benefits. The advancements of societies were based a great deal on the trust between those with common set of values and beliefs. The feeling of trust is lodged squarely in the same place as the WHY-the limbic brain-and it's often powerful enough to trump empirical research, or at least seed doubt.
Below is a generic copy of a powerful "Letter of Recommendation".
I invite you to find a trusted former colleague and or friend and ask them if they would endorse you by signing their name to your personalized, "Letter of Recommendation" and support you during your job search. Here it is.............
I have worked with many extremely talented professionals. I can honestly say, YOUR FIRST&LAST NAME ranks at the top of the list. HE/SHE has a unique way of blending humor and excitement that translates into accomplishments, and makes HIM/HER and those associated with HIM/HER successful. If that weren’t enough, HE/SHE is a genuine, kind-hearted friend, and a very well-respected colleague. FIRST NAME is an outstanding person-the utmost professional with impeccable character and resolve. HE/SHE is dedicated, hard-working and has an unremitting dedication to relationships in business. HIS/HER can-do attitude and win-win approach makes HIM/HER a unique individual. Truly “best in class”. It is my honor and pleasure to recommend and endorse HIM/HER.

Who do I list as a reference???
I am back in the job search again and I know jobs will ask for references. I am afraid my most recent job won’t be very helpful as I left there not on the greatest terms so they are out! Who ELSE can I list as a reference and how many should I have? Will they actually call each one? Thanks in advance for the help!!

I won't give up.....
I have been looking for a job for almost two years. The most crookiest place to work. In the end i had to fight for my unemployment benefits and told the labor dept what was going on in the building and what they do destroy my rep where i can't find a job now. But i wont give up. I should not have to lie on my resume when i'm suppose to use my last job as a reference witch is them. the labor dept couldn't help me and they told me i have to prove it and bring a civil suite. Yeah i'm gonna call and prove it right and by the time i do they can lie and say that person doesn't work there and when i do try they'll put me on hold cause they know it's me so i be saying good luck with that one. It was homegoods in bloomfield ct and everybody knows that place is bad. And when i told on them i've been struggling so bad but holding on living day by day. As people when should not have to work at a job to kiss ass i'm working cause i have three kids and going to work for them not nobody else. My qualifications get me in a job not kissing ass and i dont work for ass kissing.

What is the best way to find out what former jobs are saying about you?
I have never had the trouble landing a job before that I am having now. I have been unemployed for almost a year now. And sadly this is not the first time in this economy that I have looked for a job. I was terminated from my last job and I usually don't even list them since I was with them only 4 months. I was not a good fit for the position as it was advertised as an Administrative Assistant position and ended up being sales. I don't have the personality for sales. I was fired .... and filed unemployment. The employer said (to the unemployment commission) that I was fired because it was not going to work out regarding my skills. Then when I was granted unemployment it suddenly was because I was insubordinate and didn't manage time wisely. I was never written up nor reprimanded so why would I be considered insubordinate? As for managing time.... my employer was mad I didn't use my personal time to learn more about the company ( spend time learning his software at home, reading books he recommended during me free time). So basically he wanted to manage my personal time and I am not on the clock 24/7. So I can only assume that he or one of my other job references are providing a bad reference and I need to find out which one and what they are saying. How is the best way to go about it. I clearly can't call because they would recognize my voice. I would like to record the conversations as well as here in Texas, you only have to have the approval of one of the parties on a phone call ( myself) to record it. If I do find out I am getting bad references I will take it to court. Any suggestions?

Advice
I have post about a job that ask for references after the interview. I have talked to my references and they didn't heard anything from them. I follow up and the company said that they will anticipate the hiring decision the week of July 17 and not sure what that suppose to mean. July 17 is coming up next week and still till this day my references hasn't heard anything. I assume that I don't got the position. Any thoughts or opinions.
