made the manager MAD

My friend works at a store, so I thought I would have a better chance getting a job there. I applied online and then went in when she was working so I could be introduced. The manager seemed stressed and said “Don’t think I’m going to hire you just because Staci works here” and then walked away clearly frustrated. Not sure if they were having a bad way or what. Is there a way to fix this? I don’t know what I did wrong.

Do you ever wonder..........

When you post things on this network or any network, do you realize you are making a very public statement? Many of you use your full name and post the company. I know for a fact that if HR picks you out for an interview, someone is going Google your name before you make it into the front door. If you are lucky and have a common name like John Smith, then it may harder find you but if you have a more unique name, you are much easier to find and they will see what your public face is.

Companies can & do get a strong impression of you because of what you are saying in the cyber world. It doesn't matter if you have a PhD, are the perfect candidate, have good looks, and are within the hiring range, if you are negative, whiny, cannot "speak" proper English, posted pictures of you out with the gang or drunk, have a lot of misspellings, or are just plain obnoxious, they are not going to hire you.

An example: I have just finished reading a message about a man who didn't get the job because he was black. He made it through the interview process, drug screening, etc. and has an offer letter but all of a sudden the company is offering him a different job. Why? Who really knows? Maybe his drug screen showed some prescription medication he was taking and the company doesn't want to put him into the position they were hiring him for. Maybe he posted something negative to his Facebook page. He honestly believes it is because he is black. The replies to his post are what really got to me. It is amazing some of the things people said and very sad how they said it. (No, I'm not going to link his post for obvious reasons.)

Whether you are a student(1), a seasoned professional, or somewhere in between, watch what you say and post online. It can and will come back to haunt you.

  1. They can look farther back than you think. So, if you have Facebook, Instagram, etc. watch what you post.

Workplace Bureaucracy and Politics

Now, this is something that CAN be avoided however, we are but human beings. I've held a number of titles in various fields/levels and never escaped the looming geist that is politics. We seem to become bored in some circumstances, however, where YOU stand may have real consequences if you are not careful. Even remaining silent can sometimes lead to unwanted attention--there must be a middle-ground? I have found a safe haven when I did not remain silent but was very careful with what I did say when expressing my rhetorical opinion on the flavor of the week; stay humorous, smile, make like you do not take it seriously, yet, acknowledge it. This seems to deter accusations of any sort. I am just the guy who smiles and makes silly puns/jokes. I have learned to stay out of the snake pit.

Stay Home!!

Flu season is here. A few of my coworkers have come into work when they should have been home. The office sounds like a ER waiting area! I find it rude that they are passing the flu on to the rest of the office. Don't know if I should just not say anything or speak up?

She has a thing about her that can determine if someone is a good fit!

Hello, I went on an interview this morning and I know it went well with the office manager. He was professional, and easy going and explained to me all of my job responsibilities and work schedule. He also mention that he has a worker who has worked with him for years, she is a medical biller and she has work for him for years. She was not present during the interview, but he did tell me she has a thing about her that she can tell if someone is a right fit for the office. He also told me a former employee resigned without notice and another left after a few weeks. He told me he hopes it goes well when she meets me. Any advice?

Melodie

I ha e recently lost my job. I know I was at fault but really had went through my " chain of command" to rectify the situation but nothing was ever done and then my "partner" pushed me that day I even went to my nurse after it first started begging her to send me home I could no longer bite my tongue or I would lose my job today (that day) and nope. So she pushed me even more and I did the unthinkable and told her f@#$ you and boom who is without a job

Has anyone dealt with a recruiter Texting you Multiple times?

At first glance of the job posting on indeed, it sounded perfect. Of course, not wanting to miss out, I hit "apply with your indeed resume" before really researching the company.... After I did research, I was not happy. It is ran by two less than professional ladies. Seriously, who uses drunken selfies on their website... which was very vague about what they actually do. Two big red flags! Then I hop onto their social media. Oh dear. It's ran by robots. Horrible. You're in marketing for crying out loud! Robots were answering questions with phrases like "That is great! " "Oh, that sounds yummy"... They also answered their bad reviews the same way. After all that and additional digging that left me less than thrilled, I received a voice mail, email and a text from their recruiter. No biggie, right. Well, 10 days, 12 texts, 5 emails later I'm pretty upset I'm being spam- botted by what seemed to be a great job posting. Is this mass text spam-botting the new thing?
