Too old! What????

Hi...Im in a deal quandry. I'm 61 yrs young and moved to NC 3 yrs ago to work with the military families. 4 months after arriving, I had an emergency leg amputation. Obviously it took a lot to heal, recover, learn to use my prosthetic leg and get on with life. Well, I've been trying to get hirex since 2018. I know it's the age thing as all the applications ask for yr of HS graduation..omg. They don't even know about my leg. 57 apps later I was called for 4 interviews. 3 didn't hire due to hrs I can't work..I care solely for my disabled teen and can only work while she's in school. The one job with flexible hrs saw my leg and that was a no call back. The teaching jobs all told me I had too much experience and education..what?? I was told to dummy down my resume..I worked hard at my jobs and career in the mental health field and 8 yrs of college but no Masters degree which I need in my field. No employment for 3 yrs so I'm tapped out..all loans are used up, savings, everything gone but Soc Sec and that's a joke... I am completely fed up and tired of trying. My specialty is case manager, counselor or instructor for developmentally delayed plus I was a nurse for 35 yrs. Any job with this type. Of client is over an hour away and local jobs are scarce and military gets first dibs...this is a military town with a Marine base in most of the county. I'm sick as hell over this as I've never had a problem getting a job or paying my bills when I work. At 61 I shouldn't be at such a loss but I am and I worry about my teen who needs me to support and care for her. I truly feel like giving up and I never felt this way about work Ever.

Giving up

I am a 41 year old woman and I feel like giving up. I do applications every day and I make through all the processing just to be told I'm over qualified. It seems I can't get a job to save my life. What am I doing wrong?

Frustrated by everything

I have been looking for a full time recruiter or training position for over 6 months. I have put in over one hundred plus application. I have had only a few face to face interviews. The problem is interviewers seem to like me and I feel I interviewed well. I know I interview well. However they know I'm older (61) and 99% of the time the interviewer is much younger in their 30's and when I leave I feel good about the interview but never get a call back. I have over 20 plus years worth of managerial and supervisory skills.

A friend who let me know about a position one time (I never said I knew him and vice versa) said he spoke to the hiring manager and the panel felt I could not only do the job in question but could do all of their jobs. over qualified?? or threatened?? All I need is an opportunity to have a full time job and I won't use a friend to get in. Here is what tops it all off. My wife who had been going through breast cancer just finished all her treatments and is clear and she asks me for a divorce " I want to start over and I have been through a life changing event. Well as long as she is going to be okay I'll be okay.

I am in need a full time job by the end of August. Keep me in your prayers everyone and I will try and keep my chin up... (I'm stressed to the max) If I have to move out of state I will!

Have a good night everyone and be good to each other.

Gary

Don’t Give Up

I don’t have the answer for not being able to find a job. I’ve been in the same boat since February 2019. I’m Senior Level Management and my experiences in this quest are exactly like most of you. I’m living on the bare minimum with fears of eviction. I’ve already lost my home. I am a Single Mother with 2 children and I am the sole provider. It’s ugly! I’m either overqualified or I receive promising feedback, then nothing. It’s an emotional roller coaster. What I will do is offer encouragement. Don’t give up. Cry, Scream, then pick yourself up and start over again the Next day.

Is there such thing as over qualified?

Ive been here in the states for 4 months, I can work legally. Before moving I am a registered nurse in the Philippines. Upon arriving here I am reviewing for my NCLEX to be a registered nurse here as well in the US. While studying I am looking for a part time job, I have been applying everywhere name a restaurant or a coffee shop even in book stores. But they keep telling me I am over qualified for the position they’re offering.

Help here

My problem is this whenever I'm told that I'm high on the list for a job and that I'm qualified for a high position in the company but when I go out for the interview I'm always told to await the call but the call never comes and I contact the employees I'm then told I'm overqualified for everything. But I have my past working against me as well as the fact that I'm disabled due to no fault of my own since being pushed in front of and struck by a train. What can I do?

F&B Manager

I was dumbfounded that every company that I interviewed with lately thiinks I am over qualified. I feel that if I choose to try a good company that has the same morals and ideas that i should have the oportunities to grow with the company and the opportunity to contibute my skills.

When Told You Are Overqualified...

I don't think there is such a thing as too much experience. There are only companies that don't want to pay you what you are worth. The other side, the consequence is that those companies tend to have a revolving door when it comes to retention of skilled people. This is an ineffective practice due to the effect it has on everyone at any given company, it can only create instability.

I think for most we would prefer not to be in that type of situation in life, because one's status tends too change to frequently, and usually catches one unprepared; for we never know or even have an idea when major changes will affect our well-being is coming.

On the flip side of the coin its the saying Where One Won't, Another Will. There always more than one way to look at everything, just like a coin it has two sides and multiple views. However, you can set your glaze upon whatever point of origin you choose, and if you look at anything or tell yourself something long enough it will become true, even if its core is based on an untruth or right out lie, such as believing in Lack, and here's another saying:

As A Man/Women Thinketh, So He/She Becomes.

Looking for experience

I've been told I'm overqualified and told that I do not have enough experience. Where does one find someone to help with experience and to allow me to use talent to better their organization.
