Project Manager

I have a scenario that just baffle me. This concerns my resume and an interview based on that resume. Okay, I assume that a resume is for whomever it is doing the hiring to get a good sense of you are; experience, background, qualifications.........whatever. Also the resume is a tool for the hiring manager to weed out who they feel is best for the job that they offer. Okay, I get a call from a hiring manager. Just read my resume and feel I am a good candidate so the personal one on one is being scheduled. Now when I get to the interview, the person whom I am meeting pulls out the resume and we proceed to discuss my background, experience.........whatever..........right there. During the discussion, I am usually asked questions about my previous positions, what was my most challenging project, how did I overcome certain situations affecting the schedule..........whatever. Okay, after the going back and forth talking, I am asked do I have any questions and proceed to ask. Now, at the conclusion of the interview, this person now says "I feel you are a good fit, but I have reservations because I feel you may be over qualified for the job based on your background and experience". In my mind, I say "What the &^%$#@?" So I keep my cool and just make a point as the submission of the resume being my intro so that said everything about my background. This person doing the interview than says "Oh, that is true but I feel you will not be happy here because I will not be able to pay you what you are worth!" Okay, first, it seems I am over qualified, next, I will not be happy, than they cannot pay me what I am worth. When I try to convince him otherwise, I am than told that they would feel I would take the job just for now and continue looking and may leave once I find something better. Than, he starts to try to describe the job as mundane.........as if basically downplaying the job to make me not want to take it. I said to myself "What the %$#@% is this moron talking about?" Upon leaving, I am told he would be in touch..............but I followed up and was told the job was given to someone else whom he felt would be a better fit. Now I ask, why in the hell invite someone for an interview just to tell them they may be too over qualified? They have the resume in order to review it so they do not waste their time or mine. Anyone ever have an interview this stupid?

Over and Under Qualified

It's had to find a job when your skills have been in the aerospace industries and you get older. I was terminated after 24 years as a System/Cyber Engineer. I now consider myself retired taking care of my two teenagers. Been looking for a part-time job, but I am told that I am over qualified for most jobs or when I try and get back into the industry I once work, it requires a Security Clearance and my expired (from lack of use) three years ago. Perhaps I will try for a hotel desk clerk or man a storage unit....lol

Am I over qualified?

50-year-old retiree living in Florida with 30 years of NY Electric Utility Experience... and no one is interested. Is it that I"m retired or am I just overqualified? What am I doing wrong?

Turned down for being overqualified?

How do you overcome being turned down for being overqualified for a position? I'm trying to expand my skill set - unfortunately being a Data Analyst is very niche and is pretty much all Contractor work. I would love to find something in a different line of work and more stable...

Too educated for a Decent paying job???

I wanted to see if anyone else was running into this problem. I have been looking and interviewing for work since Feb. I recently got my second degree in May and since then I feel like my job chances have gotten worse. I have been on at least 100 interviews and only had 1 offer that didn't end up working out. I would say for every interview I have been on I must have filled out 20-30 apps to get to that point. Either they don't respond at all, go with someone else or don't want to offer a living wage. I am not 18 years old. I am in my 30's and need to make at min. 15 per hour in order to SURVIVE!! What is going on out there???? I'm either overqualified for the work I am capable of doing or under qualified for the work I want.. HELP!!!!!

Frustration..

I applied for several jobs since a while, I had an interview with the recruitment company, everything went well but when my CV was received by the employer...well...this one said that I'm overqualified and that job and I might feel boring doing the job...what kind of employer gives an answer like this?!?! Why don't you let me decide if I'm boring or not because as long as I've applied for that job I am aware about what kind of responsabilities this job involved and I know exactly what I have to do...it wasn't a job for which I was overqualified in my opinion...

Over qualified???

If you go for an associates degree you may as well go for a bachelor's degree too...because from what I heard I'm over qualified for alot of jobs but also under qualified for many others. So is it best not to mention college on my job applications??

Over qualified.

I thought that I had gotten the job that I applied for to be told that I was over qualified for it. Is this discrimination or not?

Over qualified and frustrated

I am been looking for employment for over 4 months now and was not getting any leads. I started applying for jobs that are way below my last pay scale hoping to land anything. I go on interviews, I think do very well on them only to hear back via email that they choosen someone that better suits their needs. I am losing my mind.
