I need a job, could you help me?

Hello, I am a Freelance Graphic Designer brand new to the Las Vegas Area. I am currently working as an Independent Contractor for a design agency in Summerlin and things have slowed down a bit. I started working for them 5 weeks ago part time 5 days a week and now they barely have enough work for 2 days a week. I know as a contractor things fluctuate work wise and a lot of smaller agencies hire contractors to simply "Catch Up". My question is outside of Freelancer, where do you find the most success picking up side jobs? I have been interviewing for several salary and full time positions but in the meantime I would like to stay busy and supplement my income. Sorry for the lengthy post! Just entered my early 50's and don't have very much experience since my 20's. Work wasn't mandatory as much when I was in my 30's & 40's. I worked where my children attended school. Now, I *must (need) to work & have no idea how to go about getting a job in today's workforce. Any ideas?
