An icy drive

I was a trucker. A few years back I was drivin up a icy hill in the middle of winter when another semi coming down the hill started to jackknife. His trailer swung out sideways blocking the entire road and headed straight towards me!! The whole time all i could think of was this is it. Thank god no one was hurt. Must have angels on my side or something. We all walked away and I learned a lesson to never under estimate mother nature when your drivin.

She was so grateful

So im a customer service rep for Amazon and I love it. Being able to work from home saves me a ton of money since I can take care of my kids at the same time. Training was easy and you end up working with a ton of great people that have good advice for new people. At some point last week I had a woman who was trying to return an expensive order that her teenage son had ended up buying for himself on her card and she was soo worried about it since the bills were due! I helped her process the return and she was super relieved and thanked me about 100 times lol

Why I drive..

Im a truck driver. The hours are can be crazy sometimes but i never minded driving long distances. My company takes care of me and im able to support my wife and kid..

I stopped on my way home last weekend and grabbed a nintendo switch for my son since ive been away and we had a BLAST playing mario kart! I grew up playing games with my dad and to be able to pass that on and spend time with my son was amazing. Being able to provide for my family makes all the sacrifice worth it!

How do you guys find time for your families?

You want to work for Lowe's?

There is a lot to learn if you can handle it. Really pay attention to your training! Take notes, especially on stuff that is specific to your department (depending on where you are). The customers WILL expect you to know everything, but don’t worry because you won’t. It’s ok to ask other co-workers. The store is a bit big and overwhelming at first, but it just takes time. Lowe's is ALL about that the customer is central to everything. Do what you have to do to take care of the customer. If you don’t know....ask! Don’t abandon them and say you’ll be right back and never return. Smile and be kind. It’s the customer’s hard earned dollar and they want a good experience. Wouldn't you?

Yup

I remember it was around this time when I worked at CVS and Mother's Day was coming up. I helped this little girl, she couldn't have been more than 10 help pick out a card for her mom. Her mom was in the store and she told her she had to wait up front and she came up and said she needed help. She took my hand and walked me over to the cards. I was in the middle of stocking but my boss saw me and gave me the ok. We went through probably like 15 cards or so until we found the one she liked. She gave me a hug and went and paid for her card with the change she had saved. CUTEST THING ever!!!!

Worked on the weekends

When I was first teaching I worked at Home Depot on Friday after work and then Saturday and Sunday's in the garden center as a cashier and then inside during the winter months. I needed the extra income as my wife and I were buying our first home and the more money we could put down the better! I basically filled the hours for those who wanted weekends off. I enjoyed being outdoors during the warmer months, but the summertime could get pretty hot. They were good about giving me bottled water and a fan in my little booth. It wasn't a bad job at all.

Custodian work at Disney

Disney IS the happiest place on earth, but a lot of things go into that to make it happen like cleaning the grounds and the bathrooms. That's what I did. I was a custodian there for a brief time before I relocated. We had to make sure everything was perfect for the guests. It paid $11 an hour at the time and the work wasn't too hard. I actually like to clean so it was easy.

I liked it here

I worked short shifts at the Dollar Tree, usually, the managers gave us 5-6 hours which might be a problem for some but I liked it. The work was easy, and the things we sold were nice in my opinion. I hate when you go into a dollar store that sells junk. Our store and I am sure all the other Dollar Trees actually has framed art and stuff like that. It was good quality.

Working at Goodwill felt...good.

Enjoyed coming to work at Goodwill. It just made me feel part of something special, I always felt good. It's a nice friendly environment, but you do have to like working with the public. For me that was my favorite part! I enjoy speaking to people so it was a perfect fit for me.
