Surrendering Self-Will

Finally realized that my self will can only do so much. There are going to be things in life that I can not control. Why haven’t these employers called me back? Why is this application process so long? Why do companies post job openings if they don’t have any open jobs? Why are these employers judging and discriminating me because of my age, gender, race? I’ve been dwelling on this stuff for too long and it’s only serving to drain my energy, but NO MORE!! I’m going to turn my attention to the things I can control. Take more online classes to build up my skills. Write to more companies requesting Information Interviews. Seek out more networking opportunities. Volunteer. All I know is that something needs to change in life to inspire more success in my life during this crisis and hopefully this is it. Wish Me Luck and take a moment to stop and think.. Where am I focusing my energy?

It's happening, it's happening!!

So I've been really struggling with my resume because I have a HUGE gap from when I had to quit to take care of my twin boys. I started applying for jobs like six months ago, and kept hearing all those terrible nos. Well, guess what - I KEPT AT IT AND GOT THE JOB!! I'm so unbelieveably excited. Don't let anyone tell you you can't. Keep working hard, take the advice that's given to you on here, and it will HAPPEN for you!!

It's never too late

At the beginning of the year I had applied to around 100 design jobs in less than a month. Was offered a pretty good job from all of those, but then decided to leave beginning of the summer to pursue some other projects. Well, earlier this week I got a call from one of the other jobs I applied for asking me to come in for an interview! I just wanted to let you all know that it's never too late to hear back from someone and don't lose hope! You never know when something will be coming your way.

Faith

I've been reading most of the post here and all I can say to all of you is to keep on going.. Don't let anyone or anything get on your way to achieve your goals .It is hard.. I know but life isn't easy.. Those being bully at work, mistreated, fired, about to lose their house etc don't let fear get you , please breathe, look at yourself in the mirror and speak to the person looking back at you. Tell him/her that today you are thankful to be alive and you will grab your resume put a smile on your face and get that or a better job.. Be positive, have faith, pray and never say I can't ... Let me know how was it today !!! Remember there's always tomorrow

BSN RN

Be patient! I don't know about your experience as a nurse but it takes 3-6 months to get a job. If a new grad its harder. If no BSN harder ..... I had to go back and get my BSN after being a nurse for 12 years bc that is almost required now.

In spite of difficulties, keep trying!

I have read many of the posts here, and the responses...I can sympathize with the difficulties that many of you face in your job search, but I encourage you to never give up, just keep on trying. I say this from the perspective of someone who has several built-in "disadvantages"...I am a Black male, over 60 years of age, and a veteran. I do not have the accent of one born in the US, being from the US Virgin Islands...so many times people who would interview me didn't know what I look like until I am face-to-face with them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen eyebrows shoot up, and I never hear from them again LOL. I am also in an industry that is dominated by East Indians, Asians, and Caucasians...another "obstacle"? It is difficult for prospective employers to overlook a combination of experience and education...I hold a Masters Degree in my field, and I have over fifteen years of in-the-trenches experience. If I didn't receive a callback or an offer after an interview, I just kept on looking...I always felt like the right opportunity would eventually come along, and it did. I work for a wonderful company, full of great people who are friendly, supportive, and caring. Never give up, in spite of the roadblocks that will be thrown in your way. Use the time between jobs to further your education and improve your skills. Always display confidence and be positive. Attitude counts. Good luck out there!
