Job Fairs Are A Waste
Am I the only one who finds that most job fairs are a complete waste of time? They tell you to sign up online, bring resumes, and be ready for an interview. This almost never happens. What happens is you do all this and show up. There are no job interviews. There are people from the companies handing out pens, brochures, etc. They tell you to apply online. Great, then why bother dressing up and coming to a job fair. Doesn't it make more sense to view what companies will be at the job fair and apply for the ones you want at home? Unless you like dressing up for free pens and can waste all that time, energy, and effort. Also, it is a bit annoying to me when they put small selling business there to try to recruit you, like oh yes get a job today selling (insert name of some beauty product or vacuum here lol) all you need to do is pay $500 for inventory of a bunch of crap you probably aren't going to sell.

Unusual Job Fair Advice
Here’s a few job fair strategies to keep in mind as you prepare to meet face to face with company recruiters to discuss employment opportunities:
Pre-Game… take a few minutes to collect yourself after you arrive and get the lay of the land. Secure a map or a floor plan that outlines the table locations for all the companies attending and identify exactly where all the organizations that meet your interest will be in order to maximize your time there.
Warm-up… start off talking to a couple of companies low on your favorable list to sharpen your elevator pitch. Make sure your statement sounds natural, clear, and dynamic before you approach recruiters from the top rated companies on your list.
Be Memorable… ask for a business card then put it to good use. After you talk with each recruiter take a moment to write down a small note of anything that stood out in the conversation on the back of each business card. Use that info as a reference point in your follow-up email or phone call to help you immediately stand out in the recruiter’s memory.
Remember, preparing yourself ahead of time to make a memorable first impressions at these events is a crucial step towards having a successful job fair experience.

Program & Project Manager | Consultant | Strategic Objectives Implementation | Operations
Seeking a position in Program or Project management in the greater Chicago area. I have long experience in leadership over cross-functional divisions/directorates. I enjoy solving the "equation" of a logistics or collaboration problem, or determining priorities of work and what the center of gravity of a situation is. I believe I excel in hands on leadership, and would be an asset to any organization that needs someone to make their processes better.
