What does "a good job" mean to you?

What do you think the answer to the above question is? I'd love to know - and so would my new reporter friend.

I just spoke with a caring reporter about the above question. A main theme of my conversation with her was how the answer differs for each person. That there is a baseline : an honest employer who treats you fairly and honestly. But beyond that, each of us has a different metric of what makes a "good job" (for some its $$, for others its impact, for others, personal growth, etc.). But that it is also impacted by where we are on a Mazlow's hierarchy of worklife needs. I mean - if one has in-demand skills and isn't worried about getting a new job, one can be picky and focus on things like great coworkers to learn and grow with, etc; but if one does not have in-demand skills to offer, or perhaps has an immediately need for ANY job or money, then a "good job" can fit a much lower criteria bar. That said, in any regard, a good job isn't just itself, but also what a person makes of to it (just like a good poker player can win with a bad hand, a person can make a mediocre job a good opportunity).

But enough of my musings - WHAT DO YOU THINK? Feel free to be as short or long in answer as you'd like! #goodjob

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today I would like to start out by giving Thanks to all of You for believing in yourselves. There is so much to give thanks and praise for. For example: Being able to work, able to apply for the job you seek and for being you. Positive minds result in positive out comes. Remember this someone some where always has it worst than another? Never give up on your journey in life. Remember this tomorrow is never promised in this journey on earth. Blessings and praise are at your finger tips. Be thankful for the simple things in life and always look at our future in life. With this said many thanks to each and everyone of you on your future!

Happy Thanksgiving, Jobcasers!

I love this day. I love seeing my family all together. I love getting a bit fatter on a great dinner. I love seeing kid's faces as they watch the parade. The whole thing.
I also love how it gives us pause to consider what we are thankful for. I marvel at the strength of the Pilgrims to come to an unsettled country. I am thankful for their courage and I am thankful for the kindness that the native Americans on the Cape showed them. I am focused on that today. The kindness of one group to another. One person to another. And that's why I am SO thankful for you! At its core - Jobcase is a platform where people help people. And you do. Everyday.
So, YES I am thankful for this country, our origins and this day. YES I am thankful to our military, first responders and others who put our freedom and safety first. YES I am thankful to God for my blessings - especially healthy, happy kids. But I am sitting here this morning feeling especially thankful for you - Jobcasers. People supporting the vision of a community that helps one another navigate difficult future of work. So on behalf of all of us building this site - thank you Jobcasers. Your kindness to one another motivate us everyday.
As we consider that first thanksgiving of 397 years ago - perhaps we can focus on the greatest aspect being how at its core they celebrated people helping people. And let's bring that spirit forward here, and beyond.
Happy Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving - what are YOU thankful for!?

Thanksgiving is a time for feeling thankful and grateful for what you have, even if it is not much. And it’s not about the money you have, or the things you own - it’s about the relationships and people in your life that mold your life into what it is, and who you are.

However, it can be pretty hard to talk about genuine things you are thankful for. We’ve all been there - using vague words like “family” and “good health” to describe what we’re thankful for. This Thanksgiving, try getting a little more in depth with your gratitude, and it will improve your Thanksgiving!

Here are some tips:

  • Allow family to think beforehand Giving your family time to think about what they are going to say will definitely help them say someone more personal and detailed. Jumping right in before eating food is a terrible way to get real answers out of them!

  • Ask them to think about the person next to them Specifically having each person talk about something about the person to their right or left allows them to recall specific instances that they may feel gratitude for. Additionally, having them recall when they first met that person, and how their life would be affected without them is a great mental exercise for thankfulness.

  • Turkey walk!! A tradition in some households, taking a walk before desert (or even dinner!) can help aid digestion, and reveal thebeautiful fall surroundings with family and friends. If you see something that makes you stop and smile - point it out, and try to think and explain why it does so. Does it remind you of a childhood memory, or a memory with someone there?

Make the most of your Thanksgiving!
