Prayers Are Powerful,,,,My Friends I Have Met on here Thank You,,,

So Im 53 Bartender of Detroit Metro Airport my whole life pretty much since 1985, yes that's very old to some,, But I was taught very well from co-workers ,, always picked up new jobs in the Restaurant when someone needed help,, i started with Marriott in 85 washing dishes, called a Utility back then, one year later room service for 2 years, learned my drinks and Bartender here I come for the rest of my Career,, I left out of the Airport in 2012 for a few years did other jobs and had a gap where i didnt work for almost a year, yes can be very depressing,, So i did have a job Bartending for Midfield concessions back inside the airport from June 2018 to November 2018, I left because every mistake you made on micros you had to pay for it, Right unfair labor law act,, So no unemployment, really put the crush on me, Holidays as Im typing Im looking at about 1.48$ on my desk, wont get me to far, so i see they were in need of utilities for some of the restaurants in the airport. So Im not to proud, the restaurant bizz to me you always work together as a team. and i start at 12.00 an hour not to bad, union house, So I do a walk in get a interview for utility, The HR Lady which ill call her Kelly , says Donnie why with your skills do you want to be a Utility, I say I don,t mind starting out and moving my way up, We had one of the best conversations I had in a long time blended in with the interview. I go tomorrow to finalize my job as a Manager for two units out in the Detroit Metro Airport,,I walked in with thinking Im going to possibly get hired as a utility,, left out with possibly becoming a Manager tomorrow. This story dont have a very strong point to it,, what Im trying to say is Im 53 was Hired as A Manager ,, My knowledge and skills over the years have paid off,,It was A Good Day Today,, I found myself sinking into a Depression,, and yesterday and today ,I pray I finalize the Management position ,And we sat there and talked for over an hour,, never nervous Presented myself with good judgement and was truthful,, I believe when I asked I dont have an answer can this be on my list of reconstructing myself. Of course She says,, Im taking 5 courses online for about 75.00 very soon , Management refresher course, Alcohol Awareness , TIPS and TAMS certification,, and Food Handling,, I truly believe if I tried to lie about anything she would of seen right through me and I wouldnt be telling my story of how I may have this Management Job. I ask for Your Prayers,, and wish You all the best,, Im not 100 percent in yet but my foot is in the door. I have alot of friends in the Airport that I can connect people with who have some knowledge in Food and Beverage ,, Airlines is a training course but one Hell of a career,, Fly around the World,, I hope my story didnt bore the heck out of you,, My point is not about age, or what you dont know, its how hard your willing to work at something to make it happen for you,, Thank You for Your Time,,

Caregiver

Yes, I believe age matters, I've been working all my life. I use to work for Department of human Services for About 9 yrs. When cuts came along, seniority ruled. So, i continued to search for work. I worked a while at Columbus Estate's. My client went in to Hospice. I've worked with IHSS for 4 yrs. In House Support Service's. I'm currently waiting on a client.

Has anyone been 'hiring ghosted'?

I've been on the casual job hunt for the past 3 months, and I've had a few interviews that, I my mind, went really well. The last 2-3 job interviews I've had (and these were face to face, meet the HR personel interviews) have not manifested into an actual offer...in fact, I've been essentially ghosted after the interviews. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or maybe it's just me?

Baffled

so- my husband , who had a masters in international business & has worked for companies like AT& T & others had tried for 6 years to get hired in Phoenix. He gets interviews- but not hired. He’s also been hired & then told “ oops HR didn’t okay that”. After the drug test & paperwork sent in”. He’s also been hired by merchandising companies just to never have the training & jobs posted. He is baffled- he’s not trying for high wage of positions- we just need extra $. He wants to work but seriously cannot even get on at Walmart or McDonald’s.
Any ideas? Is it age???

Not sure if I am still working

I don't know what to do... I was hired through a nursing agency, passed my drug test, sat through orientation, n also bought more scrubs...They took my picture and made me a badge!!..It has been 2 weeks and I have yet to have an email from them for work. I had to download an app where we view pay stubs, clock in/out etc...I had the hardest time getting in there...It kept saying my username or pw was wrong...I contacted HR n she was of no help, so I got the owners name n sent him an e-mail telling him how I couldn't download the app, he was nice and had them reset it for me. Before I know it the girl who 1st interviewed me is calling me asking what's going on w all my e-mailing n I explained it to her, also asked when would I get some work? She stated they are very slow at the moment n to keep checking my e-mail.....Somethings up and I don't know if I should call them back.. I have been looking for other work meanwhile...

Employee Right's

I don't believe that every employee knows what they're rights are, what they don't have to put up with, and that they shouldn't be intimidated by any means for asking for help or reporting misconduct regardless of the matter. I've seen too many coworkers let things slide because they're scared of losing their job. It really makes you wonder what really goes on at work that no one wants to talk about, all because it pays the bills.

I've recently have faced some issues at my previous place of employment. During the last 6 months there, I had a few people back me up and believe that the :problem" would be fixed. Well it was, just not the way i expected it too. Needless to say they overlooked my previous complaints and my please for help, the manager of the business ignored me, and they allowed an employee get away with way too much and do what he wants and I'm the one that ended up unemployed!

Sorry. I added a little more than I wanted and got away from my point. Anyway, I know how horrible it feels to feel like you're fighting an army all by yourself! I tried to find help outside of work and nothing. Nothjng more than counseling, attorneys if you can afford them and if you actually have a case, and of course BOLI; again, that's only for discrimination issues. There is nothing that I've seen that helps to resolve workplace issues by a company or group that is biased. I'd like to have an advocacy group for employees and employees only. I want to advocate for the little guy, for the one that is too scared to stand up for him/herself in fear of termination and no one should be in fear when they talk to HR, a supervisor, or anyone that hold authority.

Your thoughts? Ideas? Information that I didn't find?

Please help!

I'm currently looking into a career change. I'm willing to step out of just a job and into something I'm comfortable doing. Such as a case manager for the Human Resources Administration. That's my goal. Thank you.
