10 Tips to Keep Your Energy Up

Looking for work really is a full time job. It can be all-consuming and arduous. Well-intentioned people will prattle that if one door closes another one opens, any you're feeling like not only are there no doors, there also seems to be no windows. A tell tale sign you need to shift your focus a little. A couple things I remind myself of or do to help are to remember that:

  1. Sitting in front of a computer 24/7 isn't the best, so get out and go for a walk, go workout, work from a cafe or other environment.

  2. Recruiters are good, or not so good. But mostly they are not working for me, they are working for their clients. If it seems I can help their client, that is a win/win. But they are not in the business of finding me a job.

  3. Determine ahead of time how many hours a day to devote to a job search, and spend the rest of your time bettering yourself. Learn new skills or polish existing skills. There's always room for improvement!

  4. Read. Educate yourself on your craft, trends, what's going on in the world. Be informed!

  5. Self-soothe. Tell yourself it will work out, be optimistic and recognize that if something doesn't come through, that something else is probably getting closer.

  6. Help someone else. It's what I tell my kids when they complain about how their lives suck (seriously??) or that they're bored. Go out and do something nice for someone else.

  7. Keep regular hours and a schedule and stick to it.

  8. Know your worth. If you accept something knowing it's not the right thing, it's very likely it won't work out. Walk away from those situations and people that you just know will be toxic. In your personal or professional life.

  9. Be honest. Always.

  10. Each day find 3 things to appreciate, just 3. Small or large, it doesn't matter, but it helps to see everything in a better light.

Now...back to the job search...

New chapter

I've over 30 year's experience in accounting and finance and Customer service. I left my job after 13 years because I don't like myself and job. Getting sickness every morning going to work. Long story short I'm not going to give up. With my experience I can grow bigger. I plan to do so. I'm going to succeed. Always put yourself first. That is key as if your not taking care of "you" you cannot take care of anything else. Be positive and challenging to open opportunities perhaps you did not think about. Remember if you aren't happy you cannot make others happy!

Potential just means you haven't done it yet....

Work shouldn't be just work. Life is too short. We live, we work, we eat, we sleep?? Sooo boring. And sad really. Life should be about passion and not just paying the bills honestly! Don't let life dull you and don't forget your purpose along the way...Sure, we've got to survive, but face your fears, cross off some stuff from your buckets list and enjoy those sweets!! :) You only live once after all.

2 weeks in to my new job

I was fired december 28th and devestated. It was a shock for sure and as a mom with 3 kids I had no idea what to do, except work...so i made it my full time job to look for work and 10 days later I was hired on in a senior position with a wonderful company. 2 weeks in to my new job and I absolutely love it! Getting fired from my dead end and negative job was the best thing to ever happen to me. Keep the faith everyone and good luck in your search!

Union House

I work for a hotel that is a Union House, and I am told by my bosses that all the employees want is appreciation shown for the work that they do. It is my job as a supervisor to check the employees work in our department and the casino environment that we clean. I have been told not to help my employees with their work and to only delegate the work to the employees because it is a union house and I am classified as a Non Union Employee. My question is how do I solve the issue of trying to encourage employees to do a better job and not help them by constantly delegating their work to them when some of them are not doing their job and the department is nothing more than a catch 22 situation. You are damned if you help them and you are damned if you don't help them. In a case like this what does a employee do to help employees feel appreciated so that it motivates them to do a better job, than what they are currently doing. I find that in my line of work their aspects of the department I work in is hurting the companies bottom line performance. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
