Angry aggressive owner

I was employed at a family owned shoe store. We close at 7 p.m . There were 2 customers in the store they had paid for their purchase and headed toward the exit. Mind you there was still interior lighting . I turned off the light above the register . The next day I reported for work greeted the owner in a friendly manner. He turned and said we need to talk I was quite taken back by his tone and demeanor. Once in the office he proceed to say how pissed he was. Face red glaring at me with his fist balled up. Yeliing say he didn't care what my reasoning was or that it was 7:15 . I ask him camly if he was going to fire me he gave me no answer but just said angrily that we would get thru the weekend and talk when my manager came back from vacation. I returned to my duties very upset and frightened. He glared at me all day. I was so upset and frightened. I finished my shift and just decided to quit. I found a nice job with awesome owners and don't regret leaving him short handed.

Happy Rebellious Thursday!

In today's update, if you're looking for an online side gig rather than an f/t job, check out crowdsourcing gigs. These are usually task-oriented and have more flexibility than jobs do. Sometimes they pay the same rate, too. And they usually don't require a college degree. Examples include looking things up on the web, putting data into categories, monitoring social media, etc. Chris lists where the openings are.

If you like the international side of things, the United Nations has a range of w@h jobs open. Most of these are contractor positions for specialists and consultants of various kinds. A college degree is usually required. If you like to travel, some offer that, too. Click here for more.

If you're looking for customer service work -- or paid-shopping assignments -- or admin work -- or extra cash for your smartphone pics -- or paid surveys -- check out this morning's new screened w@h jobs and gigs.

Don't Let Unrealistic Requirements Dissuade Your From Applying

It seems like every job posting out there today, for even the lowliest of entry level positions, comes with a laundry list of requirements, where one or two rightly exclude your from applying.

Whether it is a required number of years of experience or a college degree, chances are you have looked at a job posting and opted to simply close it out in frustration because you don't meet the long list of qualifications.

Don't shoot yourself in the foot. If you come across a job that you feel you will be perfect for, apply for it, even if you don't meet every requirement listed.

The truth is, most of the requirements are simply desires of the hiring manager and not a must to be considered for employment. Obviously, there will be some jobs, even entry level that require experience or degrees, such as in the medical field, counselling services, accounting, etc...however; jobs in customer service, sales, and other true entry level positions have extensive training programs and will train the right candidates for the job.

So, why do so many jobs even have these unrealistic requirements for such entry-level positions? The simple answer is to prevent you from applying. If applicants read the desired qualifications and opt out of the application process, it is less resumes/applications that the hiring manager/HR/recruiter has to field.

Ideally, if after reading a job description you feel that you can satisfy 80% of the desired skills/qualification, go ahead and apply for that job! You will never get an interview for positions to which you never apply, and that is seriously cutting your chances of finding employment drastically.

When I was unemployed, I was looking for jobs as a software implementation specialist or an IT Business Analyst. I came across a job posting for a position that matched my abilities, but they said that it required 5 years in the leasing and rents industry...of which I had zero. I shrugged and applied regardless of the fact that I lacked the desired experience.

I got an interview which led to a job. The experience in leasing and rents never came up in the process, and I sold them on my ability to do the job based on my experience in implementation and analysis.

The takeaway from all of this...if you feel like you can do the job and benefit the employer, then apply. Again, don't apply for positions for which you are wholly unqualified, but if you can tick off 80% of the requirements, don't necessarily allow experience and education requirements dissuade you from applying for entry level positions.

Over the past couple of months while in Maine working on my free time I did research on Mystery Shoppers and what it can offer. Is it real? Can you really support yourself doing it? Do They Really Pay? Is it Hard to Do or Start? I can say I have spent over 20 plus hours researching it. In the next couple of days, I will be finished with my finding and how one can make a living doing it. Have you ever tried it? What Do You Think? ” Mystery Shoppers ” Mystery Shoppers overs a person extra income and a great way to earn good money and free gifts. It also will allow you to go to establishments for free. They offer a way to watch Free Movies, Bowling, Food and more while earning a paycheck. The best part is you can do it part-time, full-time, on your time. Management

Hi John. I have a couple of questions. First, can a manager give my position AND my hours to another employee without telling me? Second. Can a DM shave our hours and make us work at an unreasonable pace so he can get a bigger bonus? Is that even legal? I was recently terminated when the DM accused me of working off the clock when I wasn't. He even told me to not worry about it when I explain that I was picking up my broken down boxes. He called HR and asked if he could consider me picking up my boxes as working off the clock and then labeled me not rehireable. Do most people in management do things like this? And does corporate just assume that they have honest people managing their stores?
