It took a little over three months

I finally landed a job. I applied to a minimum of 5 jobs each week. I had many interviews and most of those turned out very well but I didn't get the job.

I am an Application Security Engineer with over 10 years of static code analysis experience and over 20 years of software development experience. You would think it would have been easy to find a job. It wasn't.

The problem is my age and my high level of experience can be a turn off. I got to the point I almost landed several jobs but I lost out to younger and cheaper help. I kept on trying in spite of losing so many opportunities.

I finally found the right job. It pays less than my last job but what I am getting is perfect. It is the most I can make without effecting my social security benefits. And I am working remotely again, which is perfect also.

The best thing you can do is to keep on applying and do the best you can. Tell the truth about everything, even if you think it might limit your chances. Interviewers may prefer your honesty and it's easier for you.

Remember it is a very crowded job market. Don't believe that BS about how great the job market is. In my experience it is very tough and you need to stick it out if you are going to succeed.

Apply, apply and apply some more. Refine your resume so it is easier for the HR person to read. Do some searching on the internet on the subject of effective resumes. I was fortunate and had a professional resume writer do my resume. It was the best money I ever spent.

A great resume makes a huge difference. Do not under estimate it. Take time to make your resume stand out. And then apply, apply and apply.
