A season worker...testimony

After 13 months of job searching, 450 resumes sent out, 30 interviews under my belt, I finally got it, retirement!

I found a job in late February. Administrative Assistant in a Customer Service environment. Wonderful, I thought! That's right up my alley!

I trained part-time for 4 weeks on a complex data base, I aced it. I was integrated to the office and was a hit with the customers. Everything was wonderful....except...the co-workers. Drama loving individuals, gossip generating minds acting upon speculation against everyone that worked there. I was the main target from the minute I started. Comments like, you are too professional, you are too detailed in dealing with customers, you need to explain nothing to them, just get them off the phone. Accusations of smoking in the bathroom and then called a liar if I kindly explained, I don't smoke during working hours, after all a 6 hour shift only gave 15 minutes break. Enough time to woof down a sandwich and use the WC. I was sent to get their lunches with my own car, drive broken vehicles to repair shops without reimbursement for mileage or told I had to transport co-workers to different locations and pick them back up (job related and some not). Not included in conversations or my comments / opinions ignored. I had a family emergency during that time, did not take time off, just explained that someone was ill because I was ask why I looked upset and thereafter nobody ever ask how things where going. The two lead "chicks" who were working there constantly picking apart they way I phrase sentences (yes, I speak fluent English, I just happen to have an accent since I was school as a child to a dad in the armed forces abroad.) There were many other things that had been done and said to me and make me feel badly to the point my stress level slowly made me uncomfortable to go to work. So after 9 weeks there, I decided that nobody deserves to be bullied, and I turned in my keys to the offices and never went back. I didn't give them an explanation. Why? They are aware that the drama made for a toxic environment. My only statement was: "You have people working for your company that makes you money, unfortunately I do not agree with your business tactics how you treat customers and others, therefore I have decided that you as an employer are not a fit for me."

Ending statements: bullying happens not just because you are a child, a school student, sexually different, ethic backgrounds, etc. it happens to people over 65 from all walks of life. Suddenly, right around your retirement, a lot of people change towards you assuming you are 1) hard of hearing; 2) computer illiterate; 3) comprehension problems just to name a few.

After working for 46 years non-stop as a productive and responsible employee, I have thrown in the towel. My gain, their lost, and with the currently lack of getting paid your worth, I am really not losing "that much" but I get to keep my self worth and my integrity.

Thanks for reading this and I wish everyone good luck in find a job and I hope that others will not experience what I endure over the last 13 months.

Live long and prosper! :)

So tired of interviewing and not getting jobs

Here's my story. I was terminated from a major television network after 15 years of working there in 2015. I have been applying for literally thousands of jobs since then. I got an full time job as an Executive Assistant in December of 2016 and have been here for 16 months but since I knew this was not a job where I could grow in a career, I have continued applying other places. My boss is in major debt and never pays me or anyone on time. I always get the song and dance "I'm sorry, I don't have the money for you today. i am trying to get it" and then I get paid a week late. My bills are always late because of this and sometimes I am left without money at all. I have to use my credit card just to pay for things like food. After working there for over 15 years, my old boss refused to give me any kind of recommendation. I have gone on interview after interview and am always told I'm either overqualified or asking for too much money because I can't make less than what I am making now. I usually try to keep a positive attitude but after going on 5 interviews in the past 2 weeks and not hearing back from any of them, today I am just really frustrated and sad.
