Working after a sabbatical

My husband and I moved to an extremely rural area when he got promoted and an area that was farm land and a truck stop. One year turned into four and while my career has been in business administration and general accounting I’m having an extremely hard time angling myself as an attractive candidate with this much time out of my field. In addition, some of my references are no longer with their perspective companies. Any advice?

Need Advice

Like everyone else looking for work, I have been applying for tons of jobs and getting no response. I have been out of work for the last 5 years because I have been taking care of my mom. My question is, do I put this on my resume or on a cover letter????? Otherwise it just looks like I have been doing nothing since 2014, which is not the case. This last 5 years has been the hardest work of my life. Caregiving, especially for a parent, is so heartbreaking. My background is in accounting and payroll and I have tons of experience. I haven't had to look for a job in so long so I feel like I don't know what I am doing! Thanks for any advice!

Loyalty

I have worked as an accountant for a nonprofit for ten years. Along comes my supervisor's son who is very inexperienced, has no degree and appears to me to have an attention deficit. She teaches him all day long in preparation for the job. He receives the same pay rate as me. She goes over my timesheet with me about my hours at the end of every period. She gives her son overtime. What is going on in the work world these days? Loyalty and honesty are not rewarded. Favoritism and greed are motivating factors.

Furious!!

So I had a job interview at a job that was about 50 min away. They technically hired me on the spot except for the fact that she never said those magic words “you’re hired!” She just introduced me to the entire company as “our new AP Accountant” as she gave me the tour of the building. The first week I hardly worked due to computer issues. Second week I was finally able to begin working on entering invoices into the system. At the start of the third week,I was asked to go home until my supervisor could talk to me!! After 2 weeks of being off of work with no pay but still employed technically, she had someone else from the office text me to let me go...while planning my grandmother’s funeral!! Should I ask for reasons why and explain the fact that I don’t appreciate the lack of respect in how I was let go? What do I do?!?!?

References ??

Hello, i recently left a job as an Accountant for a company that didn't have the best management. I had expressed concerns to my direct manager about some disrespectful comments that were being made by seniors on our team that were at that point considered harassment. Nothing was done about it, i mentioned it to HR but again nothing was done about it. After this i decided to leave the company, on my current job search all my recruiters are letting me know that they for sure need a reference from this employer, considering that my direct manager was furious i took my concerns to HR he was upset when i left the company, hence i would not want to use him as a reference.

I've worked in the accounting field for about 8 years and all my previous employers have great things to say about me, I'd hate to think that this last experience is going to hinder my future job search, does anyone know how i can get around this "reference" dilemma .

Thank you all !!!
