Heaven help you if you're a victim of the Great Recession.

If you got laid off in 2010 and afterwards have a gap in your employment, you won’t get hired. Just the other day I called Accountemps about a Collection Specialist position and an A/R position. A few days prior I was told that they have my resume on file and I would be called if anything came up that I was suited for. So when I saw these jobs I spoke to a recruiter at Accountemps and I asked why wasn’t I called as I had been promised. The recruiter said that companies will routinely dismiss applicants with gaps in their job history. I asked who the client was of these jobs was. I was told that was confidential. I then asked if the client wasn’t aware that it is difficult for those of us over 60 to get hired and companies like them aren’t getting workers like me hired when we didn’t lose our job through no fault of our own. I told the recruiter to pass my resume to this client with this proviso: • I’m not interested in anyone’s job other than what is available. • I’m not a threat to take anyone’s job.

Let’s see iwhat happens on Monday.

Age discrimination is alive and doing well!

I responded to a post on Indeed.com for a local company seeking an Account Payable Clerk. Office manager sent me an email stating she was very impressed with my experience and background and wanted to schedule an interview. I met with her the following week, interview went very well and before I left she told me I was at the top of her list. Followed up a couple of days later nd she said they filled the position with another candidate. When I questioned this and reminded her of what she said, she stated that the person they chose "fit their culture better". Translation: Person chosen was younger. The person who interviewed me was young enough to be my daughter(maybe even granddaughter).

Looking for job

I am looking for a accounting position but have been out of the real work field, my grandmother got very sick so I quit my job and took care of her 24/7 for 6 years. She pasted away so now I am trying to get back into a real job and can't because it's been so long sense I haven't done accounting for sometime. Does anyone have any ideas?
