What should I know before applying to a Receptionist job?

I agree. I actually smile while talking to ensure I'm being genuine. Also, as receptionist, make sure you stay close to your station most times. The business depends on you being consistently present.

Remember old adage " customer is always right". Answer phone with a smile believe it or not it comes through.

Always remain positive, regardless of the situation. Use positive language; avoid negative words or phrases such as 'I don't know...' Always make direct eye contact with fce-to-face customers, and SMILE when you answer the phone. Trust me, your smile can be 'heard' whenever you speak with someone over the phone.

In my experience, you wanna know how to be professional in person an over the phone, know how to answer phones with multiple lines under pressure, have knowledge in outlook for email correspondences, knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite. You wanna and have an upbeat personality and treat everyone fair.
As the receptionist, you are the first contact for that company, therefore, you represent them. You will want to be professional, polite, and eager to assist. Many receptionist positions also involve other office tasks that will need to be catered to while answering calls, etc. Do not be on your personal phone, play games, or dilly dally on the clock otherwise, as this can be especially tempting when you’re in front of a computer all day. Be proactive and ask to assist in any tasks available if you find you are in need of something to do. Smile, be courteous and quick.
