Would you get your degree if it was free?

My prior employer paid for me to get an associates degree and for most of my bachelor's degree. It was a hard and long fought journey, but I did it. But just because it's free, would you do it?
Target is offering to pay for higher education which is awesome.

Your time isn't free. And 4 years it a long time to waste. What you need for a job isn't taught in the classroom

if it was free, yes. I think people with a degree get paid a lot more.

In reality, employers often want to see some classroom teaching, often a degree or credential. If they say they don't care, they are just BSing you so they can try to offer you less money.
Shoot for an AA degree at the least, they are fast (often less than 2years) and cost quite a bit less than a four-year school and you can often get trade and/or technical training. If you start out at a four-year school and drop out after two years, you often have nothing to show for the work and money. Though a 2-year school may accept the classes from a four-year school toward an AA degree. You can always transfer up to a four-year school later. Some snotty departments in four-year schools may question some of your classes because you "didn't get them here". But challenge them and you often can get them to back down. In eleven years of teaching at the Junior college level, I only had one student who couldn't get all his classes accepted.

I would get my degree, and use what I learned to open my own business and becomes successful, just because you have a degree, there might not be that many or any jobs in that field because of all of the people that lost jobs, they might just give it to them just to fill the position and you worked hard to get your degree. Just always have a backup plan when you are considering things like this.

Yes I would. I longed to be a CNA. Had to highest gpa. But couldn't pass the certification test. This hurts still.

You know, actually, right now in our "economic mess" a degree means so much less than it did. In many areas construction, common laborers, even fast food workers jobs are easier to get with decent pay and now with benefits never seen before. Why? Desperation!! Degrees mean so much less and then add student debt...Wow! I know it's crazy. ..

hell ya. that's what most these average kids need when they get out of high school. but it looks like if you don't have a wealthy family forget about continuing your education .
