I suggest you consult with some of the many references out there for resume and cover letter writing. Your computer might even have templates to use. I know there's no one set style so they vary. Some basics are using plain fonts and make them look attractive so they draw a reviewers attention but are not so flashy that they are distracting. Consistency in formatting such as dates, and punctuation and abbreviations makes reading them easier. Cover letters should be one page mentioning what you're applying for, summarize your qualifications, and request an interview and mention your resume. Write a cover letter specific for each application too. Resumes can vary depending on what you're applying for too. Try looking up some formats and play around with some to see what you find most appealing and represents you. You might want to have multiple resumes in different styles. I'm sure you can find something.
