Hey Dirrie, I found these four useful tips that can help you manage your online presence for employers: http://dorieclark.com/reputation/ (1) be upfront with employers about what they might find on google, if you get to the interview stage. be sure to back it up with a good explanation, (2) apologize if appropriate, (3) do your best to get the bad content off websites (e.g. by asking the creator/poster of the content to take it down). If the source is removed, you can ask google to take it off its search listings as soon as possible here: https://support.google.com/websearch/troubleshooter/3111061?hl=en&rd=1 (4) post your own content (e.g. a personal website) that you can control and will come to the top of the google search listings and push the bad stuff down.

Hope this helps! Jeff

I'm also still looking for the answers as to what they look for, but your best side isn't hiding cause if you didn't care you wouldn't have applied. First what I'm doing is freeing my time and doing hobbies and educating classes for some more topics. This should workout so I won't be discouraged.

This is, I am sure, a common problem. I would think that I needed to know exactly what my Google presented when my name was searched. Jeff- your suggestions were excellent and right spot on! Honesty is the best policy, especially if it comes to very private (or intended to be private). As I get older, I come to understand so many of the different points of view and I really love the whole process of helping clients through whatever the situations are, regardless if they are appropriate or not. As long as it is not something attached to any kind of legal situation, the client needs to be able to experience some kind of resolution. The best way, I think, is to look the information up, write it down. Study the situation from all of the different points of view. The next thing that I would do is to see if there is a particular person or entity at the root of whatever the problem is. If possible, try to get together with whomever may be writing negative things about you or things that you would rather not discuss. Perhaps the situation may be as 'easy' as having made a simple embarrassing mistake as a youth or there abouts age. I do not know a single person who has not had a situation that caused some redness in the face. Man up to it, don't make it a federal case, so to speak, and then move on. Perhaps you could present yourself as being open for having a forum for asking questions about the situation, if appropriate. You could also steer the discussion towards other topics. This could go bad or it could be something that is handled in such a way that the potential employer is really quite impressed with your management skills in a potentially volatile situation. Great food for thought!

I would just be honest, Honesty is the best policy do not lie your just lying to yourself if so and if there is a reputation you can build a great one by talking to the true ones and strengthen your positive feedbacks with your real friend or family.

How do I find what a previous employer is saying about me online. Because every time I submit a resume for a job , and they call me for a job interview , they interview me and then do a back ground check, and they after reviewing my back ground they decide not to offer me a job. A friend of mine who worked in the same place as me, was let go and applied for a job and was denied a job, then he went home and googled his name and found out he was being black balled by the company, but he can"t remember where found the information. Please help
