As a supervisor or manager, make sure that you know and can do the job of every employee. Your subordinates will work harder and have more respect for someone that knows their job, rather than someone telling them how to do their job with no experience.

As a supervisor or manager my best suggestion is that you learn how to listen to your employees. We don't always have all the answers and your employees may help you find that answer that will work for both the employee and management they have good ideas make them part of the solution. They will feel empowered and will work hard to accomplish the goals.

Know the business, first and foremost. Second, know the people you'll be supervising, as in what does each bring to the table in their own way and be ready to work with each. Be proactive in noticing areas for improvement and be ready to back that up with numbers. Management isn't interested in the day to day employee issues or concerns unless it impacts the business. They want to see how you and your team can provide the end goal; the bottom line.

As new Supervisor to company you should be aware of the scope of day-to-day operations , of ‘how’ to implement decisions, goals, and objectives through the work of subordinates working ‘for’ them. A supervisor doesn’t necessarily manage the “worker”; the supervisor manages the “worker’s WORK”. To meet daily work flow expectation assessments of the work force team should be reviewed and possibly initiate realignment to match the team members capabilities

Trevor,

I thoink you should know that even if you are the Supervisor that you are there to show your employees that you can do the job you are instructing them to do. It has always workedout better for me as a Supewrvisor when my team know that I can accomplished the job as well.
