Be an out going friendly people person. Be able to deal with stress and difficulties with coworkers and customers. Must have attention to detail and ability to learn specials and describe them in a way that makes the customers mouth water. Have the ability to think in your feet because during you peak hours you will know what it’s call in the weeds. Other then that always be good with the line cooks (free food) and fast help for mess ups, the bartender, for obvi reasons. Spread your service equally with all you tables, and remember you might be busy but guests are not and they are watchg you.

What Jaycee said! Definitely be friendly, outspoken, able to multi task in a fast paced setting and attention to detail. Important is menu knowledge. You will get a bunch of question re: allergies, gluten-free availability, etc. try to upsell (suggest the soup of the day or a salad before main course, or how about some appetizers to share for the table, esp. with bigger parties). Take the lead, be confident and don't get thrown off by questions u cannot answer. Make an effort to get the answer or divert it into something u can answer. It's no problem to say "let me find out for you", to avoid wrong answers and upset customers. You can do it! Let us know If we were helpful, once u worked a while as server!

You should be personable and presentable. Next be efficient and pay attention to detail. Attentiveness is nice and also having the ability to read people helps. Multitasking helps when you're busy and just a little empathetic because sometimes people just need a little extra care.

To succeed as a server, you need excellent customer service skills, strong communication abilities, the ability to work efficiently under pressure, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
